The Penn State York men's basketball team earned the No. 1 seed in this weekend's Penn State University Athletic Conference tournament.

The local Lions will host the men's and women's PSUAC tournament after the men's team finished the regular season with a 15-1 record.

Penn State York has a bye in the first round of the playoffs before taking on Penn State Lehigh Valley at 3 p.m. Saturday. The rest of Saturday's games are scheduled for 1, 5 and 7 p.m., and the men's championship will be played at 5 p.m. Sunday. The women’s championship is at 3 p.m. Sunday.

“I am extremely proud of this group. I knew early in the year that they had the potential to be a good team,” men's head coach Parrish Petry said in a news release. “Going through a tough conference and finishing 15-1 says an awful lot about their physical and mental toughness,” he said.

York won the PSUAC championship three years straight in 2013, 2014, and 2015 before dropping an overtime decision in the semifinals last year against Penn State Fayette.

“The bar has been set high here at York by previous championship teams. This year’s team has now climbed over the first hurdle, winning the regular season championship,” Petry said. “Our focus is now on the tournament title. As the regular season champion, the bull's-eye gets bigger and brighter; hopefully we will be up for the challenge."
