Another York County supermarket opened its doors to liquor sales.

Giant is sponsoring free shuttle bus service on Rabbit Transit to take customers to its store in Delco Plaza starting Wednesday. The company is closing its store on West Market Street in West York. It's last day is Jan. 21. location.

Giant Food Stores debuted beer sales at its West Manchester Township location Jan 12, the company said in a release.

The West Manchester store, located on Carlisle Road, became the third Giant location in York County to offer beer sales. Other stores in Springettsbury and Windsor townships began selling beer in late 2016.

York County liquor license for sale to highest bidder

The latest opening is part of a larger trend of supermarkets pushing into the liquor business after the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board allowed convenience stores to sell beer and wine with the approval of Act 39.

Local convenience chains like Giant, Weis and Rutter’s have all begun beer and wine sales in the county. Giant also won bids on two York County liquor licenses, both sold at auction in December for over $500,000 combined.

Although the liquor licenses obtained in December are located in Penn Township and Glen Rock respectively, they could be transferred to other locations within the county after both PLCB and municipal approval. Which stores the licenses will be moved to has not yet been confirmed, company spokeswoman Samantha Krepps told the York Daily Record last month.
