Odell Beckham Jr. on ref's calls against him: 'Everybody can see it'

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – At first he said he didn’t want to get into it.

But then, New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. did not back off from postgame comments he made about officiating in the team’s 24-14 loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

“It doesn’t surprise me,” Beckham said Wednesday at his locker when asked for his reaction to support he received from Giants coach Ben McAdoo. “Everybody knows what’s going on on the field. Everybody could see it. (Blind musician) Stevie Wonder could see it. It is what it is. You can’t do anything about it. There’s no point. I shouldn’t even have brought it up because it’s always a lose-lose situation bringing something up. Either you’re speaking out on it and you’re trying to defend yourself or the other way around, you’re complaining.

“Either way it goes, I should have probably never brought it up. It’s really irrelevant. Nothing is going to change. No calls are going to be made because of what I say now. You have got to keep playing. You know what you’re going against. It’s the Giants versus everybody and I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

Giants' Odell Beckham is no fan of referee Terry McAulay’s crew

After Sunday evening’s game, Beckham told reporters “it’s not like I’m sitting here saying the refs are the reason we lost the game,” but added that he doesn’t “really think that (the Giants) should have this crew anymore … with the past history and everything that’s going on.”

Terry McAulay was the referee in New York’s game against the Steelers. He also oversaw last season’s Week 15 game between the Giants and the Carolina Panthers, in which Beckham and now-Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman combined for five personal fouls.

Beckham was later suspended the following game.

During a conference call on Monday, McAdoo said he thought “a few times (Sunday) that (Beckham) may have been interfered with, but that is part of the process.” McAdoo also said the team would be sending game film of some of the plays in question to the NFL league offices in New York to receiver “clarification.”

Beckham finished the game with 10 receptions and 100 yards on 16 targets.
