Caledonia Township, Mich. — A student at a western Michigan college has been shot and wounded by a slug fired through a wall during a fight in a residence hall.

Kent County sheriff’s officials say two Davenport University students were involved in the altercation about 2:30 a.m. Sunday with four people who don’t attend the Caledonia Township school.

One of the nonstudents fired the shot that penetrated the wall and struck the student who was not involved in the fight. The wounded student was treated at a hospital and released.

The shooting is under investigation.

Caledonia Township is southeast of Grand Rapids.
