The university announced Saturday morning that the Tom Izzo Hall of History will be part of the Breslin Center renovations, pending approval from MSU’s Board of Trustees. The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2017.

The Izzo Hall of History is being funded by part of a $10 million donation from Bob and Julie Skandalaris in 2014.

“Coaches play such an integral role in the mentorship of students and developing tomorrow’s leaders,” Bob Skandalaris said in a release. “We believe it’s appropriate that we honor Coach Izzo in this manner, to recognize the hundreds of lives he’s personally impacted through his guidance, and molding his teams into champions.”

Izzo was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Sept. 9. The Iron Mountain native has a 524-205 record in 21 seasons with the Spartans, including the 2000 national title, seven Final Four appearances and seven Big Ten regular-season titles.

“The Tom Izzo Hall of History will become a great gathering place on our campus where together we can celebrate the excellence of Spartan Basketball and MSU Athletics,” athletic director Mark Hollis said in a release. “When this facility project is complete it will be the finest college basketball facility in the country, so it’s only fitting that Tom’s name will be a permanent part of it.”
