Sears Holdings is planning to shutter 64 Kmart stores across 28 states. Battle Creek's store isn't among them.

In a Monday report by Business Insider, the publication said seven Michigan Kmart stores will close this year with liquidation sales potentially beginning as early as this week. Among the scheduled closures are locations in Grand Rapids, Jackson, Fenton, Manistee, Byron Center, Alpena and Sault Ste. Marie. Battle Creek's Kmart store at 200 Capital Ave. S.W. is not on the list, surviving yet another round of closures by the company.

Battle Creek's Kmart, Sears stores not on closure list

Howard Riefs, director of corporate communications for Sears Holdings, confirmed to the Enquirer Monday that Battle Creek's Kmart store, as well as its Sears location within the Lakeview Square Mall, "are not impacted and will remain open." Kmart also has local stores in Marshall and Hastings.

78 Sears, Kmart stores to close; see the list

Closures of this magnitude are nothing new to Sears Holdings. Earlier this year, the company announced a closure of 78 Sears and Kmart stores in an effort to restore the chain to profitability. With the wave of new stores closing, Business Insider reported Monday that there are about 870 Kmart stores left worldwide, a 40 percent dip for the chain since 2012.
