See: Battle Creek-area schools' M-STEP, SAT scores

Scores of students across the Battle Creek area did not pass the Spring 2016 M-STEP, according to data released by the state Tuesday.

Students in grades 3-8 took the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress in English Language Arts, math, science and social studies.

High school juniors took the M-STEP science and social studies tests as well as the SAT.

Statewide, the average SAT score was 1001.2. The highest possible SAT score is a 1600.

Around half of all students in grades 3-8 statewide passed the M-STEP's English test. Those who passed the math test ranged from about 33 percent of the state's eighth-graders to 45 percent of third-graders.

Battle Creek Public Schools

In BCPS, less than 30 percent of students in grades 3-8 passed the English Language Arts and math tests of the M-STEP. The percentage of students who passed the English test in the elementary and middle school grades ranged from a low of 15 percent of eighth-graders to a high of 26 percent of fifth-graders.

Those who passed the math test in the elementary and middle schools ranged from a low of less than 5 percent of students in the eighth grade to a high of 19 percent in the third grade.

Less than 5 percent of BCPS fourth- and seventh-graders passed the science test. Five percent of fifth-graders and 7 percent of eighth-graders passed the social studies test.

At Battle Creek Central High School, the mean SAT total score for high school juniors was 926.9. About 42 percent of 11th-graders were determined to be college/career-ready in reading and writing, and that figure dropped to 25 percent of 11th-graders when it came to math.

Lakeview School District

At the elementary and middle school levels, the percentage of students who passed the English test ranged from a low of 41 percent of fourth-graders to a high of 52 percent of eighth-graders.

Less than half of students at all elementary and middle school grade levels passed the math test. Those who passed ranged from a low of 27 percent in the sixth grade to a high of 48 percent in the third grade.

Twelve percent of fourth-graders and 13 percent of seventh-graders passed the science test. Meanwhile, 17 percent of fifth-graders and 30 percent of eighth-graders passed the social studies test.

The average SAT total score for Lakeview High School juniors was 1006.4, slightly higher than the state average. About 57 percent of juniors were determined college/career-ready in reading and writing, and 40 percent received the same rating in math.

Harper Creek Community Schools

In the elementary and middle school grades, the percentage of students who passed the English test ranged from a low of 27 percent of sixth-graders to a high of 60 percent of fourth-graders.

Less than 30 percent of students in grades 5-8 passed the math test. At the elementary and middle school levels, the percentage of students who passed the math test ranged from a low of 24.5 percent in the sixth grade to a high of 42 percent in the third grade.

Twenty percent of fourth-graders in Harper Creek and 18 percent of seventh-graders passed the science test. About 16 percent of fifth- and eighth-graders passed the social studies test.

At Harper Creek High School, the mean SAT total test score for juniors was 981.7, below the state average. About 60 percent of 11th-graders were determined to be college/career-ready in reading and writing, and a third were determined to be prepared in math.

Pennfield Schools 

At the elementary and middle school levels, the percentage of students who passed the English test ranged from a low of 36 percent of fourth-graders to a high of 57 percent of seventh-graders. Those who passed the math test ranged from a low of 20 percent in the sixth grade to 42 percent in the third grade.

Nine percent of fourth-graders and 24 percent of seventh-graders passed the science test. Eighteen percent of fifth-graders and 33 percent of eighth-graders passed the social studies test.

The average SAT total score at Pennfield High School was 978.7. About 56 percent of 11th-graders were deemed college/career-ready in reading and writing, and 29 percent were deemed ready in math.
