Now former Democratic State Senate candidate Steven Glickman is hoping to find his way back on the ballot. Last week, State Supreme Court justice Denise Hartman invalidated all of his petitions because she said he failed to meet New York’s five-year residency requirement.
Glickman said Monday he plans to appeal the decision. “I am as determined as ever to remain on the ballot and provide 55th District voters with a choice on November 8th,” he said. “I will be fighting this in the Appellate Court.”
Hartman ruled the Democrat gave up his New York residency when he registered to vote in Washington, D.C. in 2014. Glickman’s campaign said while they can’t re-argue the facts, they will be disputing the process.
“I wholeheartedly appreciate the outpouring of local support. This is not the end — I am hopeful to stay in the race and continue with our movement to refresh Rochester by enacting the ideas of the citizens of the 55th District,” he said.
Glickman was challenging incumbent Republican and former TV anchor Rich Funke.
Funke’s campaign said, while the State Senator will be active in his District regardless, at this point he’s running unopposed. A Funke spokesperson criticized Glickman for pushing the issue.
“Even schoolchildren know the rules apply to everyone, but maybe Steven missed that lesson. Worse, he’s wasting voters time and the court’s resources, all while improperly paying himself through his campaign account. It’s time for this to end,” Jesse Sleezer said.
