Battle Creek's Graphic Packaging is among 24 organizations and individuals named finalists for the 2016 Governor’s Energy Excellence Awards.

The company, located at 79 E. Fountain St., was named one of three finalists for Best Projects in the industrial and manufacturing category along with Cargill Inc. in St. Clair and Verso Corp. in Escanaba. Awards are given annually to organizations "which recognize an extraordinary commitment to reducing energy waste through innovative energy solutions," according to a news release.

“Energy efficiency doesn’t mean doing less," Gov. Rick Snyder was quoted as saying Wednesday. "It means doing as much or more but using less energy to get it done. Energy efficiency is the best example of a no-regrets policy Michigan can have."
