Jefferson Borough will host a Night Out event from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Lions Pavilion Ball Field.

“The kids absolutely love it,” said Patricia Simpson, chairwoman for the event.

There will be bouncy castles, toys, prizes, games, music and more.

Planned attractions include:

  • An old-fashioned cupcake walk, with a six-pack of cupcakes donated by Kennie’s Market in Spring Grove.
  • Firetrucks for kids to “look at and climb on." Firemen will also hand out hats and coloring books for the children.
  • Hamburgers, hot dogs, snacks and drinks, all for $1, and free snowballs.
  • Door prizes.
  • Drawings for gift cards.
  • Fingerprinting kits for parents.
  • An eye- screening station that can help detect vision problems in children from six months to 6 years old.

Every child also will receive at least one free book provided by the East Berlin Library.

“It’s really kind of nice to see the kids sit around the picnic tables reading them,” Simpson said.

Several community businesses and nonprofits will also be on-hand at the event.
