BATON ROUGE — LSU senior kicker Colby Delahoussaye met Monday with family members of his two friends who died in a car accident Saturday night near Waukesha, Wis.

LSU place kicker Colby Delahoussaye celebrates his game-winning 50-yard field goal against Florida.

Nebraska punter Sam Foltz and former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler were killed when the vehicle driven by Sadler lost control in rainy conditions, hit a tree at high speed and caught fire in a rural area of Wisconsin, according to the Waukesha Count Sheriff’s office. Foltz and Sadler were pronounced dead at the scene.

Delahoussaye, who was sitting alone in the backseat of the car, suffered second degree burns on his legs and a cut on his head, his mother Bridgette Delahoussaye said by telephone Monday.

“We’re trying to process all that’s happened,” she said. “We’re asking for people to please pray for the families of the two boys.”

Foltz, Sadler and Delahoussaye were attending the national elite John Kohl kicker camp in Wales, Wis., near Milwaukee.

“Colby has been going to that camp for years, and he has become very close with other kickers like Mike and Sam at these camps,” his mother said. “I’ve talked to him several times on the phone over the last couple of days, and he wanted to spend time with their families today.”

Delahoussaye’s father, Dwayne Delahoussaye, flew to Wisconsin on Sunday to be with his son and help him return, Bridgette Delahoussaye said. She was unsure if her son would be attending the funerals of Sadler and Foltz. Sadler of Grand Rapids, Mich., was a former All-American punter at Michigan State who had been admitted to grad school at Stanford. Foltz, a popular senior for the Cornhuskers, grew up in Grand Island, Nebraska.

“We’re expecting Colby home today or tomorrow. Traveling could be rough on him,” she said. “We have to see what condition he’s in and what he’ll need for treatment.”

Delahoussaye was LSU’s starting kicker in 2013 and 2014 before losing his job to junior walk-on Trent Domingue last season. Delahoussaye, who made 24 of 29 field goals as a freshman and sophomore with six of seven from 40 yards and beyond, was expected to compete with 2016 kicker signee Connor Culp of Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, Arizona. Delahoussaye did not attempt a field goal last season.

“It’s pretty much up in the air when he can return to practice,” Bridgette Delahoussaye said.
