Rain over, heat continues Tuesday

Update,10 p.m.: The rain has ended for the evening, said Kevin Fitzgerald, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Radar estimates show that 1 to 1.5 inches of rain fell south of York, he said.

The heat continues Tuesday, but it will be dry, Fitzgerald said.

Update, 8:20 p.m.: The severe thunderstorm warning for York County has been cancelled, according to the National Weather Service.

Update, 7:25 p.m.: The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for York County until 8:30 p.m.

A line of severe storms are moving Southeast at 25 m.p.h.

Damage to roofs, trees and siding are possible.

Areas that could be effected include: Weigelstown, Red Lion, Hanover, Dallastown, the weather service says.

Update, 4:56 p.m.:

Some areas of York County are hearing thunder or getting hit with rain.

Radar showed an area of heavy rain near Spring Grove moving southeast shortly before 5 p.m.

Further west, a long line of severe storms was headed southeast at 30 mph, affecting towns such as Johnstown, Altoona and State College.

UPDATE: A severe thunderstorm watch has been set for York, Adams, Franklin and Lebanon counties until 8 p.m.

The heat and humidity hitting northeast states will help fuel storms around the region, according to AccuWeather.com.

A heat advisory also remains in effect.

We'll have a very humid day today in southcentral Pennsylvania with a mixture of clouds and sun.

Though a line of storms will sweep through the Mid-Atlantic, they won't be enough to cut the heat.

Later on in the afternoon, we're expected to see a heavy thunderstorm sweep through the area. The high today will be 95 and the low will be 73.

Similar hot temperatures will continue through Thursday, and then cooler temperatures will arrive on the last day of the work week.
