Fort St. becomes London street for ‘Transformers’ shoot

A downtown Detroit street was transformed into a London street on Saturday for filming of the fifth installment of “Transformers.”

On Fort Street at Shelby, outside the newsrooms of The Detroit News and The Detroit Free Press and the federal courthouse the street was transformed into a London street complete with an entrance to the Undergound subway system and a red telephone booth on the corner.

Filming will occur during daylight hours Saturday, on Shelby and Fort streets.

Film crews and support staff prepare for filming of the next installment of the "Transformers" franchise as a crew member places London plates on a car along Shelby Street and near Fort Street in downtown Detroit.

The fifth installment of the series, “Transformers: The Last Knight” is expected to film for eight weeks in Detroit, after also visiting locations including Arizona, Cuba and London.

Road closures for filming this weekend will last until 5 a.m. Monday, according to Paramount Pictures. Off-limits areas are just west of Campus Martius:
