Build Your CorelDRAW Files Efficiently

July 11, 2016

I was sent a CorelDRAW file that was really slow. There were a variety of reasons for the slowness, but there was one issue that repeated numerous times. Look at the two red dots below.

If you look really closely, you might see a difference between them. But you would have to look closely. Each of the dots is less than 1/4 inch in diameter, so any difference would be lost if we weren’t zoomed in closely. Now let’s look at those dots in wireframe view.

The original dot, on the left, was built using a combination of a fountain fill blended to the main dot. I rebuilt the one on the right with only a fountain fill. In total, the original dot had 14 objects. The rebuild only had 2 objects. This isn’t a really big deal for just a single dot. But when it is repeated hundreds of times in a file, the difference can really add up!

So even when you are building a really simply file, use the most efficient method to do it so that you won’t run into problems when you do build more complex files.
