MSU's Bryn Forbes visits with Pistons, hopes to shoot his way into NBA

Bryn Forbes is well aware of his calling card.

When asked today about what he could bring to the NBA, he was right to the point.

“Shooting, first and foremost,” the former Michigan State sharpshooter said.

“Shooting and spacing is something big I can do, probably what I do best.”

Forbes was at the Detroit Pistons practice facility for a predraft workout, joining five other prospects in another effort to draw notice before Thursday’s NBA Draft.

Forbes, a former Lansing Sexton standout, shot 48.1% (112-for-233) from three-point range as a senior last season, averaging 14.4 points in 28.1 minutes per game. His shooting stroke will get him a look - he set the Big Ten three-point record in a game at Rutgers - but he has to show more skills to make it in the NBA.

Forbes said he is able to play both backcourt spots.

“That’s the biggest thing about these workouts,” he said. “They want to see you competing, really going after it. I think being in shape’s big, too. They want to know if you’re in shape, taking it serious so I think this whole group did pretty good at that.”

Forbes, 22, said he has received advice from MSU coach Tom Izzo.

“In the beginning I was talking to (Izzo) a lot,” Forbes said. “Pretty much compete is what everybody says. That’s the biggest thing. Do what you do, don’t do too much.”
