If you like summer weather, today is going to be really nice, said Ed Vallee, meteorologist with AccuWeather.com.

The forecast calls for partly sunny skies with a high of 86 degrees. It will be humid with a thunderstorm in spots this afternoon, according to AccuWeather.com. Air quality today also will be poor because of the high ozone levels.

But heavy rain is expected to fall over the Memorial Day weekend from a tropical storm that is predicted to develop today off of the Carolina coast.

Why isn't Wrightsville holding Memorial Day parade?

Tropical Storm Bonnie and a cold front coming through York County could deliver anywhere from half an inch to 1.5 inches Sunday night into Monday, Vallee said.

Flooding could be a concern in poor drainage areas, he said.

The forecast for Sunday calls for sunshine with increasing clouds. The high is predicted to be 78 degrees.

On Monday, a few peeks of sun are possible in the afternoon, Vallee said. The high for Memorial Day is expected to be 81 degrees.

Tropical moisture is expected to bring rain to the area for Memorial Day.

Looking ahead, tropical moisture could bring rain to the area for Memorial Day, the weather company says.
