EUGENE, Ore. – Michigan State sophomore Sarah Burnham shot a 3-over-par 75 in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships on Thursday at Eugene Country Club. Burnham is tied for 69th out of 132 players on the individual leaderboard heading into Saturday’s second round.

Burnham began her round on hole No. 10 and recorded back-to-back pars, but was 4-over-par through holes 12-14. She bounced back after the difficult three-hole stretch by shooting 1-under her final 13 holes, including a birdie on the par 3, 152-yard 16th. Burnham closed the day with 11 consecutive pars.

Arizona’s Haley Moore and Purdue’s August Kim currently lead the tournament after both carded 4-under 68 on Thursday. Oklahoma State leads the team leaderboard (284), followed by UCLA (286), Washington (289) and USC (289).

The top 15 teams (out of 24) and nine individuals not on an advancing team through three rounds will play a fourth and final round of stroke play on Monday to determine the top eight teams that will advance to match play, as well as crown the 72-hole individual national champion. The team national champion will be determined by a match‐play format that will consist of quarterfinals and semifinals conducted on Tuesday, followed by the finals on Wednesday.

Burnham’s second round will begin at 8:25 a.m. PT (11:25 a.m. ET) on Saturday from hole one. Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
