Mark Dantonio continues to protect Connor Cook’s blindside.

Michigan State’s coach fired back via Twitter at reports which used anonymous sources who attacked his departing quarterback’s character and personality throughout the NFL Draft process.

Dantonio sent one tweet directed at the Detroit News at 1:19 a.m. Tuesday, then another aimed at the Detroit Free Press at 7:48 a.m. Connor Cook’s father, Chris, also responded to Dantonio’s initial message.

The first from Dantonio: "Just read article in Det. News on CC. Writers need to check their facts and "sources" inside the bubble. #35-5 #GossipColumm." The second, which referenced Kirk Cousins: "Insightful" Free Press article on CC. 3 years of interviews granted tells his story. #35-5 #YouLikeThat?!"

Cook fell to the Oakland Raiders in Saturday’s fourth round, at pick No. 100, after being projected by many draft analysts to be a late first- or early second-round selection.
