The Spartans (24-26, 5-14 B1G) looked like they would continue their hot hitting from Friday’s 5-2 win, but Freshman Kaitlyn Eveland’s first-inning RBI single was the only run that the Spartans scored on the day, allowing small scoring spurts by the Scarlet Knights, who scored three in the top of the second, and two each in the fourth and sixth innings.Michigan State fell to visiting Rutgers, 7-1, on Saturday afternoon at Secchia Stadium.

Celeste Wood and Lea Foerster each doubles for the Spartans for the second straight day, Wood finisheding with a 3-for-4 effort, and Foerster walked once and added a run scored. Eveland had the lone RBI of the game, and finished with a 2-for-3 effort. Rutgers improves to 24-28 overall and 8-11 in Big Ten play, snapping a three-game skid.

The rubber gae of the series will be played at 1 pm on Sunday at Secchia Stadium.
