Despite a series of closures by Sears Holdings that will affect Sears and Kmart locations nationwide this summer, Battle Creek's stores are not expected to be impacted.

In a news release Thursday, the company said it plans to close 68 Kmart and 10 Sears stores this summer to cut losses and restore Sears Holdings to a state of profitability. It's the second round of planned closures announced by the company after it said it would close roughly 50 Sears stores earlier this year.

Closing Sears stores will start liquidating inventory April 29 while closing Kmart stores will begin liquidating May 12, according to a USA Today report.

Many of the stores will close in July while others will hold off until mid-September.

Battle Creek's Sears store is located at 5575 B Drive N. within the Lakeview Square Mall. It is one of two stores -- along with JCPenney -- that remain in the mall from when it opened on Aug. 3, 1983. The area's Kmart, which also will remain open, is at 200 Capital Ave SW.
