MSU's Aerial Powers tabbed Big Ten player of week

Aerial Powers put together a big week for the surging Michigan State women's basketball team.

And the junior was honored Monday afternoon by being named the Big Ten player of the week.

Powers averaged 27.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals for the No. 17-ranked Spartans, who posted victories over Purdue and Wisconsin. She had season highs in scoring in each contest.

In Wednesday's 68-56 victory over Purdue, Powers had a then-season-best 25 points and six rebounds to lead MSU (16-4, 7-2 Big Ten). She followed with 30 points, nine rebounds and three steals in Sunday's 77-54 road win over Wisconsin.

Powers is averaging a team-best 19.7 points and 8.7 rebounds for the Spartans, who kick off a three games in five-day stretch Wednesday when they host rival Michigan.
