In pursuit of selfies: Death, arson charges from photos

A 19-year-old Texas man is dead after police say he accidentally shot himself while posing for a selfie with a gun.

Deleon Alonso Smith died of a gunshot wound to the throat about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at an apartment in southwestern Houston.

Investigators say the cousin was in another room when the gun fired.

In Maryland, Justin Michael Clum, 26, was charged Saturday with three counts of attempted first-degree murder, arson and other offenses. He was ordered held on $1 million bond.

Court documents allege he burned down a house in a jealous rage and went back to the site and took selfies in front of the ruins.

According to police and court documents, on July 17, Clum’s girlfriend told him she had a sexual encounter with a man who lived at the home in Glen Burnie, Maryland.

The Annapolis Capital reports (http://bit.ly/1JI3BdG) that the girlfriend told police that Clum drove to the home, poured gasoline on the front porch and set it on fire. The three people who were in the house escaped unharmed.
