Many years ago, in a corner of Asia, a man named Nee walked into a room where a missionary was preaching. No one had invited him. He was drawn in by the music. He sat down, listened to the message, and before the meeting was over he stood up and said:

“I have been searching for truth for years. I spent money, traveled to different countries, explored Confucianism, Buddhism — and nothing satisfied me. But today, with what I have just heard, I find peace for my soul. From this day on, I will be a disciple of Jesus Christ.”

His growth was remarkable. He had been the president of an idolaters’ society, and when he was given the opportunity to speak to them, he preached the gospel with admirable clarity. The seed took deep root in his life and in everything he touched.

But the story doesn’t end there.

One day Nee went to the home of the missionary — who was Hudson Taylor — and asked him a question that should still echo in every church around the world: “Tell me, brother, how long has your country known the gospel?”

The missionary bowed his head. “Hundreds of years.”

“Hundreds of years? My father searched for truth his entire life and died without finding it. I have lived most of my life and only now am I hearing this glorious truth.”

And then came the question that pierces us: “Why didn’t you come sooner to bring us this good news of salvation?”

Today, from thousands of villages, millions of people are asking us the same question through the silent language of their need: Why don’t they come? Why don’t they come? Why don’t they come?

Dr. Oswald Smith put it with brutal honesty: why should we preach the gospel a hundred times to one person and not preach it even once to the millions who have never heard it?

This is not about stopping your ministry where you are. It’s about asking ourselves an uncomfortable question: are we doing anything concrete for those who have never heard?

The answer is not complicated. It is demanding — but not complicated. Put missionary work first. Not as a secondary department of your church. Not as a special offering once a year. First.

How? Organize an annual missionary conference in your congregation. Four, five, six days dedicated to studying the Great Commission and taking concrete steps: praying for unreached people groups by name, giving so that workers can go to those places, and sending missionaries from your own church before it is too late.

The fields are white for harvest. The question is not whether there is a need — the need is crying out. The question is whether we are going to keep hearing that cry and do nothing.

Each of us will receive our reward according to our work. Not according to our intentions. According to our work.

O missionário baixou a cabeça.

We have been eating the bread of life for decades. Some of us for twenty years, others for thirty, others for fifty. And not just plain bread — we’re feasting. We have church, preaching, conferences, books, and retreats. We are well fed.

But there are millions of people in the world who have never tasted the bread.

I’m not talking about physical food. I’m talking about the gospel. There are entire groups of people who have never encountered it. They’ve never seen it, never heard it. They didn’t reject it — it simply never reached them.

And meanwhile, we keep filling our own plates.

Hunger is the best picture I know of the need among unreached peoples. Because hunger doesn’t require a theological debate. Hunger hurts. And the person who has food but doesn’t share it has to live with that choice.

There is a video called “Tell Me How to Be Bread.” It’s a prayer set to music, and it asks God for something very specific: Lord, show me how to be nourishment for the one who has none. Show me how to reach the one who has lost all hope. Tell me how to be bread.

That prayer should be ours.

Not as a nice-sounding phrase. Not as an emotional moment during worship. As a genuine question we bring to God — and wait for a real answer: What is my part in this? What does God want me to do?

Notice the question isn’t “Is there a need?” We already know the answer to that. The real question is, “What do I do about it?” That question changes everything. It moves you from being a spectator to being someone who is sent.

God doesn’t ask us to solve the whole problem. He asks us to do our part — to pray specifically for people groups without access to the gospel, to give generously so workers can go, and to be willing to go ourselves if He calls us. And for our churches to be more than places where we feed ourselves — to become bases from which the bread of life goes out to those who have never tasted it.

Jesus said the field is the world, not the church building. If that’s true, our vision has to stretch beyond our own walls.

I invite you to watch “Tell Me How to Be Bread” at https://youtu.be/6SFOV3eGcbk — and use it as a prayer. Don’t just watch it. Watch it on your knees. Ask the Lord to show you your place in His mission.

Because while we enjoy the feast, there are people out there who have never once tasted the bread.

May God help us to be bread.

Estou falando do evangelho.

A fome dói.

Existe um vídeo intitulado “Diga-me Como Ser Pão”.

Convido você a assistir a “Tell Me How to Be Bread” em https://youtu.be/6SFOV3eGcbk — e a usá-lo como uma oração.

By Joel Comiskey, God’s Missionary Purpose (2026 publication date)

The man who first set my heart ablaze for missions never knew my name.

C.T. Studd had been dead for decades before I encountered his story, but one line from his poem stopped me cold: “Only one life, ’twill soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.”

Studd had everything the world offers — fame, admiration, wealth. A celebrated cricket star at Cambridge, he seemed to have it all. But when his brother nearly died, Studd was forced to ask what any of it was worth in light of eternity. The answer changed everything. He gave away his inheritance, sailed to China with Hudson Taylor’s mission in 1885, and never looked back. Fifteen years in China, six in India, twenty-one in Africa. He famously said, “Some want to live within the sound of church or chapel bell; I want to run a rescue shop within a yard of hell.”

Studd lit the fire in me. My prayer is that this post fans that same flame in you.

The Global Reality

True missionary work is not about promoting a superior culture or rescuing uneducated people. It is about glorifying God by making disciples of all nations. Consider where the world stands today:

33% of the world’s 8.1 billion people identify as Christians — those who have heard and responded to the gospel

42% are unreached — people with little or no access to the gospel or a local church

25% are reached but non-Christian — Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and others with access to the gospel who have not yet believed

The Great Commission has been partially fulfilled. But nearly half the world remains unreached. That reality should move us.

Lessons from the Field

My wife Celyce and I served in Ecuador with the Christian and Missionary Alliance, planting a cell-based church in Quito in 1994. God used those small groups to transform lives, raise up leaders, and multiply disciples. The lesson became clear: disciple-making — not programs — lies at the heart of effective mission.

We also learned that healthy mission work always aims to make itself unnecessary. Our goal was never to remain indispensable, but to serve until local believers were ready to lead, send, and multiply on their own.

After three decades serving alongside missionaries and local churches across continents, one conclusion is unmistakable: missions is not a side activity of the church — it is central to God’s purpose for His people.

Jesus possesses all authority in heaven and on earth. He oversees all missionary outreach. As He gathers worshipers from every nation, He alone receives the glory.

One life. Soon past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.

What role is God calling you to play in His mission to the nations?

A resposta mudou tudo.

A Realidade Global

Lições do Campo Missionário

By José Vega, www.elim.org.sv

A pastor once asked his cell group to name the hardest place in the world to share the gospel. They guessed North Korea. The Middle East. A closed country somewhere. He listened, then said quietly, “What about the apartment next to yours?”

The room went silent — because everyone knew the answer, and everyone knew they had not been thinking that way.

When Jesus sent His followers in Acts 1:8, He did not begin with “the ends of the earth.” He began with Jerusalem — the city where they already lived. Then Judea, the surrounding region. Only then did He point them outward. The order matters. Mission starts where our feet already are.

Missiologist Ralph Winter called this nearest work E-1 and E-2 evangelism — reaching people who share our language and culture, and reaching those who live close by but across a small cultural gap. These are the neighbors we pass on the sidewalk, the coworkers we see every week, the family down the hall who speaks a different language or worships differently from us. Jerusalem and Judea are not abstractions. They have faces and names.

It is tempting to treat local mission as a lesser calling — something for believers who cannot travel or give large sums. Scripture gives us no such category. The Samaritan woman Jesus met at the well in John 4 was not a strategic project. She was one person, in one village, on one ordinary midday. That encounter rippled outward until many in that town came to faith.

Cell groups are uniquely built for this kind of reach. A small group knows who just moved in next door, who recently lost a job, and who never gets invited anywhere. Pray for them by name. Invite one of them to a meal. Ask your group each week, “Who is one person in our ordinary path we can love this week?”

You do not need to board a plane to join God’s mission. You only need to notice the people already around you — and let Him send you the short distance to them.

Your Jerusalem is waiting.

Worldwide evangelism is most effective by missionaries who have first been cell leaders. A person who has led a group, multiplied it, and raised up new leaders carries a transferable skill. They don’t just have a title; they have a process they can repeat anywhere in the world, across any culture or border.

Effective evangelism is always relational. Mission is about loving people to Jesus, but it cannot stop at conversion. We must disciple new believers until they become leaders who disciple others. This is the engine of the Great Commission.

Modern migration is today’s “Great Scattering.” Whether moved by choice or necessity, a person equipped with the cell vision is a missionary in waiting. Wherever they land—a new city or a new country—they already know the blueprint: build relationships, form a cell, and plant a church.

The cell is not just a meeting; it is a laboratory for a global mission. It doesn’t just teach the theory of the harvest—it trains the harvester.

A migração moderna é a nova “Grande Diáspora”.

By Nelma Araujo, cell pastor at Foursquare Church of God, Belém, Brazil

One of the great strengths of the cell church is its dynamism. It moves quickly and simply toward its goals — and this mobility is precisely because, like the New Testament church, it requires no physical megastructure to function. It is a house-to-house ministry. It goes where people are, which means it can reach anywhere people live.

In fact, the cell church goes where the institutional church cannot — and that makes it strategic in fulfilling Christ’s Great Commission: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19–20).

How can cells be involved in missions?

First, your base leadership must be committed to missions because those who carry the missionary vision will naturally share it. Leaders who discern God’s heart know that it beats in a steady rhythm: go, go, go. Visionary leaders dream — and they communicate that dream with such passion that it becomes contagious, spreading from person to person until the whole cell is infected with it.

Second, a cell can function like a soldier moving through the jungle — not easily perceived by the enemy, yet playing an extraordinary role in advancing the mission. Such a soldier guards companions while disrupting enemy forces. When a cell intercedes for those who don’t yet know Jesus, it is doing exactly this: penetrating a lost world, dismantling traps, and disrupting the enemy’s strategies. This ministry is profound, and new believers must be taught it so they can join the fight as intercessors.

Third, cells must be engaged financially, giving so that the gospel reaches every corner of the world. As Paul wrote, “From him and through him and for him are all things” (Romans 11:36).

In many parts of the world, the church of Jesus Christ faces fierce persecution. There are places where faith cannot be expressed publicly — where doing so risks torture or death. Even in countries that theoretically guarantee religious freedom, churches are burned, and pastors are murdered. How does the gospel advance in such places? How does the church grow under persecution? The answer is in the cells. Small, mobile, and largely invisible to hostile forces, cells can multiply where institutions cannot survive. Training new leaders and sending them into difficult fields is woven into the very DNA of the cell church.

Cells are strategic for fulfilling the mission to preach the gospel to the ends of the earth — and that mission begins in your city, your neighborhood, your community. Cross-cultural missions matter enormously, but so does local mission: reaching through cells into needy communities, to people who have never met Jesus as their Savior. Both are the heartbeat of God — and both can beat through a cell.

Within our cells, there are families, young people, children, workers, and the elderly who need not only to hear the gospel but also to see it embodied in a living community. When we think of missionary work, we often immediately think of distant countries and forget our own Jerusalem. However, overseas missions become sustainable only when the church has put down deep, healthy roots in its own local community.

To attain that strength, it is essential that our Christianity be a living faith in Jesus Christ, expressed through conversion, discipleship, obedience, and love for one’s neighbor. This Christian faith must not be confused with a Christianized culture. The latter may manifest as cultural heritage, religious customs, or social identification with Christianity, without necessarily indicating genuine conversion. A locality may be surrounded by Christian symbols, language, and practices and still lack a true witness to the Kingdom of God.

For this reason, deepening evangelization requires going beyond the superficial and devoting ourselves to making disciples. In that effort, home cells play an invaluable role: they bring the church closer to people’s daily lives, foster close relationships, enable personal pastoral care, and create spaces for sharing the Word in a family-like setting. In this way, evangelization ceases to be merely an occasional activity and becomes a continuous presence that transforms lives, strengthens the church, and makes the local community a true launching point for mission to the nations.

By Robert M. Lay, Cell Church Ministry Brazil

From the very beginning, God desired fellowship. After creating Adam and Eve, he pursued a relationship with them. After the fall, he went looking for them. After the flood, he preserved a remnant through Noah. He called Abraham — the first missionary, I would argue — to be a blessing to all nations (Genesis 12). From that moment, God’s global purpose was clear: all peoples on earth would be blessed through him.

God is a global God. Seeking and saving the lost is not simply something he does — it is who he is.

After Abraham came Moses, sent to rescue God’s people from Egypt. After Moses, the prophets guided Israel back to faithfulness. And then, in the fullness of time, God sent his own Son — bringing his kingdom to earth, saving a people, and giving them a new identity and a clear mission.

God sent his Son. His Son sends us.

Our assignment is straightforward: make disciples of all nations. Jesus described it in three movements — going, baptizing, and teaching others to obey. He also gave us a geographic sequence:

Jerusalem — Begin at home. Win and disciple the people in your own Oikos, your relational world.

Judea — Go a little further, to those of similar culture and background.

Samaria — Cross-cultural boundaries. Step into unfamiliar territory.

The ends of the earth — Reach those with entirely different languages, customs, and worldviews. The unreached.

This progression matters. Jerusalem is not just a starting point — it is a training ground. Every church member is called to make disciples where they live, and in doing so, they are being shaped into the missionaries God will one day send further out.

This is where the cell church has a distinct advantage. One of the core goals of every cell is for each member to reach their Oikos for Christ. That hands-on experience — winning people, walking with them, training them to do the same — is the best possible preparation for missionary work. A cell member who has done this faithfully at home is ready, with some additional preparation, to be sent anywhere in the world and be genuinely effective.

The problem is that many missionary candidates are selected primarily on the basis of theological training, with less attention given to whether they have actually led people to Christ and discipled them. Theological training is important — but it is not sufficient on its own. This imbalance may explain why discouragement is so common on the mission field, and why, in Brazil, many missionaries never return after their first home leave.

Cell churches are uniquely positioned to send out missionaries who are not only theologically grounded but practically proven — people who have led, discipled, and multiplied at every level of the church’s life.

In the end, mission work always comes back to this: God is at work. He has always been at work. Our calling is simply to join him.

Help us, God.

Deus enviou Seu Filho.

Samaria — Transponha as fronteiras culturais.

A colleague of mine recently traveled to a closed country where sharing the Gospel is forbidden. The believers she met there appreciated her presence and asked her to thank the believers in the United States for praying for them. My colleague did not have the heart to tell them that she could not remember the last time she heard prayer for persecuted believers and those who work with them.

Mission work is an act of spiritual warfare. We are entering communities with the intent of bringing people out of the kingdom of darkness and leading them into God’s family. That resulting clash of kingdoms requires our prayer. And that is something that anyone can do.

My wife and I keep an index card on our kitchen table. The card lists all the countries of Europe, from west to east. Whenever we say grace before our meal, we pray for one of the countries on that card. We ask God to open hearts and to send more workers. (Luke 10:2)

If you lead a cell group, helping people to consistently pray for the lost in other nations is quite strategic. Perhaps you could show a video that tells the story of someone you know, use that as a springboard to increase prayer and awareness, and then go to prayer. You could talk live with a missionary via Zoom and pray. You could adopt a missionary and then support them in prayer.

There are many ways to be involved in God’s missionary purpose, and prayer lies at the center of their effectiveness.

Se importando o suficiente para orar

Steve Cordle, Diretor Executivo, The River Network International (trni.org)

When Emperor Constantine ended the major persecution and supported the construction of churches, many things changed. Yes, it helped that the believers were no longer persecuted as they previously were. However, there was a transfer of perceived responsibility.

Over the years, believers became accustomed to sitting in the pews and letting the clergy take responsibility for sharing the gospel. The perceived responsibility between the clergy and laypeople continues in the 21st century. The clergy preaches, and the laypeople listen.

In Revelation 1:6, we see that God made us priests. In Matthew 28:19, Jesus gave the early believers a commandment to go and make disciples. Scripture makes it clear that it is the responsibility of every believer to make disciples, because God has made us priests.

As believers in the 21st century, we must break the cycle ingrained in our church culture. We must start by believing and living as if we are indeed priests, making disciples.
