Hand made, hand embroidered drawstring pouches.
One of these is patchwork focused, namely Grandmothers flower garden.
The other piece is gingham focused, embellished with bullion knots and sequins.
Both pouches are fully lined with silk Dupion.
I use these to store my vintage handkerchief collection and I get to see them every day.
The work in the embroidery hoop from this post is being progressed.
There are French knots, Bullion knots and buttonhole stitch being used here.
In terms of finishing this, there are two more holes to edge and some snippets of silk velvet to embellish.
I do like how this looks...another sample to inform and develop.
Embroidered silk beads, otherwise known as Funky Puffs!
I make a lot of these.
I use them on edges, on seams, in artist books.
These ones will be used on this piece, on seams or at an edge.
These embroidered silk pieces are only pinned at the moment.
They will be fixed to the lace cloth base with lots of white French knots and bullion knots.
I'm excited to see how these pieces come together, to see if I can add the colour to the very white base in a way that is seamless, as if they have always lived there.
Ten embroidered silk pieces for patchwork.
Each of these measures two by two and a half inches and will be used with pre-cut one inch petal templates.
They will form a motif identical to the floral pieces in the post yesterday.
As each of those flower motifs requires eight petals I definitely have more of these to embroider.
Patchwork pieces, some for my stash and some for my current project.
The embroidery hoop is full of hand embroidery which will be cut out and used in more patchwork.
You might be able to see some embroidered pieces in the large floral patchwork pieces.
That is the plan for the pieces in this hoop.
Another page completed in for this ever growing collection.
Next step here is an overlay.
The embroidered cloth piece relating to this work is also progressing along with a small embroidered fabric book.
The ideas keep coming.....
I have so many embroidered samples, I'm constantly questioning the best way to preserve them, to keep them safe, unscathed.
Large paper sheets are one option as are very large sketchbooks.
I'm still not sure which is the best way if I'm honest.
This is discussed in the video today.

Thi spiece popped up in my Facebook memories today and I'm so pleased it did.
It has provided more inspiration for my current design work especially the gimp and the buttons but also the composition, the placement of paper alongside embroidery.
You last saw this piece in a short video where I was embellishing seams with bullion knots.
Today there is a short video showing the contrast between the hand painted fabric when it hasn't been embroidered and how it transforms after hand embroidery is added.
I now have a huge pile of holiday laundry to tackle.

It's a hardback notebook today, one of these (and no, I'm not on commission).
I can recommend stitching into one of these books.
There are pages of dots, graph paper and other linear patterns which make spacing so easy.
The paper is very receptive to needle and thread too.
I haven't actually worked into this one for a while and I'm tempted but I must finish some other things first.

Creating a wrapping cloth means lots of seams.
Today, bullion knots.

I am not working on anything else.
A reminder, there's a wrapping cloth and a design notebook.
More painted cloth is being embellished for the wrapping cloth and 'different' overlays are being created for the design notebook.
There are plans for more hand made embellshments for the notebook to accompany my little mushroom tags.

My fabric painted pieces are now evolving into a wrapping cloth.
(girls in class, I made you a short video explaining this)
Sections of white cloth will be added to fabric painted pieces after they have been embroidered and patchwork added to the white space.
Seams will be embellished with running stitch, French knots and bullion knots.
It's growing quite quickly but next up I need to embroider another painted piece.
I often speak about how past work inspires and informs and consequently am a big advocate of never throwing anything away.
The books, ledgers, sketchbooks here are old, some older than others.
The red one for example was made 30 years ago.
These pieces and others are referred to regularly.
Having references like these is invaluable and I feel fortunate to have resources like these literally at my fingertips.
Another stitched notebook....one from 'the other place'.
This one was created before my current piece which you are seeing regularly on here.
As you will notice, I didn't develop this one as fully as the book I am working on now.
I learnt from this one, (we learn from everything don't we) and I am learning from my current one.
It has occured to me to add to this one taking inspiration from current work but sadly I have a very limited supply of this paper.
Regardless, if I don't do anything else with this one there is still a wealth of information here to inspire in the future.
I have started to add the hand stitched overlays to the pages of my little design notebook.
Little mushroom tags have also been added to some pages.
There is so much more I want to do in this little book.

I have calculated how many more overlays I need to make....thirteen.
I best get going then.

Tags, embellishments, embroidered and stitched papers, tiny artist book pages....
All ongoing explorations of a design theme.
I'm having so much fun with this.
Now I'm wondering where I can go next.
I mentioned recently that I lost all public reference to my collection of embroidered sample books because of you know who.....(Typepad)
Insert some unladylike language here.
I also mentioned that I'd try to somehow post a little of that collection here and here we are.
