      <content:encoded><![CDATA[The owners of Scaldersitch Farm in the Peak District, one of the country’s original and longest standing glamping businesses, have shared the eight key industry trends that they have noticed over the past 12 years in time for World Camping Day on 29 June. 
<br>

<br>
Scaldersitch Farm’s owners, Catherine and Ian Hine, founded their glamping business in 2011 when glamping and boutique camping was still in its infancy. They started with Secret Cloud House Holidays, in the Staffordshire Moorlands, before adding the Scaldersitch Farm site in 2015. Since then, the industry has grown considerably, with booking platforms like Canopy & Stars reporting that revenue has doubled since pre-pandemic levels. 
<br>

<br>
Over the past 12 years, Catherine and Ian have seen some significant changes in the sites available and what consumers are expecting from their experiences. 
<br>

<br>
1)	Personalised luxury. Visitors want unique, memorable stays that completely meet their needs. From on-site wellness treatments to candle-lit dinners and guided walking tours, the experiences at glamping sites have increased and diversified since the early days.  
<br>

<br>
2)	Higher standards. Outstanding luxury finishes have become more usual in recent years. Soft lighting, unique decorative details, a fridge stocked with local, high-end ingredients for breakfast and luxuries such as a pre-heated hot tub are becoming more sought after. 
<br>

<br>
3)	Glamping weddings. There has been a very clear trend towards boutique, outdoor weddings largely driven by smaller budgets, and a growing desire amongst couples in their 20s and 30s to have more rural, festival-themed celebrations, with a tight group of guests.  
<br>

<br>
4)	Increase in corporate events. Particularly since the pandemic, companies have started favouring smaller, more focused events instead of large-scale conferences. There has been a noticeable uptick in all-site glamping bookings with wellness activities, brainstorming sessions or workshops incorporated. 
<br>

<br>
5)	Some variation in quality. With the increase in sites, Scaldersitch Farm has seen much more variation in quality. The term can mean anything from a pre-pitched tent with pillows, to a 5* luxury yurt with all the trimmings. Sometimes consumers don’t have a clear idea of how luxurious a site is until they arrive, which can result in disappointment. 
<br>

6)	Sustainability. Growing concern for the environment means that customers are taking more notice of how eco-friendly glamping sites are, and also want to see locally grown and created products available in things like breakfast hampers and toiletries. 
<br>

<br>
7)	Beyond summer. The glamping season has gradually expanded to cover other seasons, including winter. With the top-end sites offering hot tubs, wood-burners, and other comforts, customers can enjoy a cosy escape yet still be in the middle of the countryside. 
<br>

<br>
8)	Not just canvas tents. Glamping has moved beyond tents over the past eight years and now encompasses tipis, yurts, pods, treehouses, and other outdoor structures as well. 
<br>

<br>
“We founded Scaldersitch Farm when we came across a run-down caravan site on the Staffordshire border and knew that it could be turned into something very special,” explains Catherine. “Glamping was a new concept at that point, barely anyone was doing it and we were one of the very first sites in the Peak District.
<br>

<br>
“A lot has changed since we started. Glamping has started to mature and is being embraced by increasing numbers of people, particularly since the pandemic prompted a move towards local, more nature-based travel. Some of the changes within the industry have been positive, such as the extension of the glamping season. It’s fantastic to see people enjoying our beautiful outdoor spaces in autumn and winter, along with the more traditional warmer months.”
<br>

<br>
However, Catherine, who worked within the luxury hotel industry for several years before entering the glamping market, points out that there have been some downsides to the boom, which means that research is vital before booking accommodation. 
<br>

<br>
“New glamping sites are popping up all the time, and there is now a much more noticeable variation in quality. On top of that, the lack of a formal industry grading standard means that sites can claim to offer glamping accommodation but not actually be very luxurious at all,” says Catherine. 
<br>

<br>
“This is quite different to the luxury hotel industry, which has nationally accredited star rating systems - and can put people off glamping as a whole, which obviously isn’t great for those of us that have very high standards. Our advice would be to research your site thoroughly and check things like online reviews, and social media channels before booking. There are some wonderful options out there but the huge increase in sites over the past few years means that it can be difficult to know which one to go with.”
<br>

<br>
Founded in 2016, Scaldersitch Farm is set in some of the Peak District’s most stunning countryside, with the wide open skies making it ideal for star-gazing and sunrise watching. It is surrounded by footpaths and cycle trails, and close to Hartington Village, famous for its cheese, and home to a range of shops, pubs and tea rooms. It is also convenient to numerous other Peak District attractions, such as the Tissington Trail, Dovedale stepping stones, Arbor Low, Buxton, and Bakewell.

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[Loneliness is on the rise. *Almost a third of people in the UK already feel lonelier since the pandemic. *Disconnected communities could be costing the UK economy £32 billion every year. This can be exacerbated by the cost-of-living crisis, which hinders social interaction.

A leading loneliness charity, Marmalade Trust, is launching its 7th annual campaign, Loneliness Awareness Week 2023, dedicated to raising awareness of loneliness across the UK and worldwide. Taking place from June 12th to 18th, this year's campaign, 'Connection Matters,' aims to get people to notice and encourage small everyday connection moments to reduce feelings of loneliness and increase connection. 
<br>

<br>
By highlighting the need for people to reach out to each other and share even the smallest moments of connection, we can support ourselves and others to feel acknowledged, happier and reduce loneliness.
<br>

<br>
Marmalade Trust calls on everyone to strive for a future where open conversations about loneliness are commonplace. This empowers individuals to share their emotions and strengthen social connections. 
<br>

<br>
During Loneliness Awareness Week, we encourage individuals, businesses, organisations, and community groups to join us in creating supportive communities by harnessing and sharing moments that matter and initiating conversations about loneliness with family, friends, colleagues and neighbours. 
<br>

Alice Peperell, Campaign Director of Loneliness Awareness Week, describes three simple ways people can get involved,

“We are asking people to join in by spreading the word, building connections by organising or joining an activity or event, and following us on social media and sharing stories of connection.”

Actor and soap star, Anthony Quinlan, is best known for his roles as Gilly Roach in Hollyoaks, as well as Pete Barton in Emmerdale. Like thousands of other men, he started to notice hair loss in his late twenties and decided to do something about it, for both personal reasons and for his career. 
<br>

<br>

<br>
“I think I was around the age of 27 when I first noticed that my hair was starting to thin,” says Quinlan. 
<br>

<br>

<br>
“As well as the physical aspect, it was also starting to affect me mentally. Working in the acting industry there’s often a lot of heavy lighting and I was finding it embarrassing that the makeup team would have to fill in my hair on set.” 
<br>

<br>

<br>
As well as the impact it was having on his career, the actor also found himself becoming increasingly aware of his hair loss outside of work too. 
<br>

<br>

<br>
“It was starting to affect me on a daily basis; I felt very self-conscious about the hair loss whenever I would go out.” 
<br>

<br>

<br>

<br>
That’s why he decided to call upon the Farjo Hair Institute, one of the most respected hair transplant clinics in the country who are renowned for their natural looking hair transplant results, as well as their long list of VIP clientele. 
<br>

Dr Greg Williams, a distinguished Hair Transplant Surgeon at the Farjo Hair Institute, carried out Anthony’s procedure. 
<br>

“Anthony came to the Farjo Hair Institute in 2017 to see what his options were when it came to his hair loss on the recommendation of his good friend and Emmerdale colleague, Chris Bisson. After a thorough consultation with myself, we decided that the first priority is to ensure that the loss has stabilised first through medical therapy. Anthony came back a year later in 2018 and we agreed that a follicular unit excision (FUE) procedure would be the best route forward. We carried out his 7-hour operation which involved 1926 grafts into the affected areas. His results are fantastic and I’m thrilled he’s regained his confidence”

“I think when you look at the before and after photos you can see that I’ve had a pretty impressive result. I’m really pleased and I no longer have the heavy lighting issues on set anymore either! It’s changed me for the better and I’d recommend anyone who has similar issues to explore this as an option” says Quinlan.

LONDON, UK - Life360, the family locator app and safety membership platform, has today announced a 64% growth in UK premium members over the last year, alongside a range of new features included in its free membership offering, rolling out over the next weeks. This includes further integration with Tile, the leading Bluetooth tracker brand it acquired in 2021.
<br>

<br>
Used by more than three million people in the UK and 50 million people worldwide, Life360 offers families peace of mind by allowing them to coordinate daily activities in real time, find important items, stay connected with those who matter most, and assist in emergencies.
<br>

<br>
Its existing features include; advanced intelligent location sharing between Circle (group) members through Place Alerts, which send a push notification when members leave or arrive at a designated location; Check-ins, which allow a user to send their location via push notification instantly to every member in their Circle and Family Driving Reports, which allow families to see how (and what) drivers are doing behind the wheel to encourage safe habits and more.

New free features unveiled include:
<br>

Free Crash Detection, which notifies Circle members and emergency contacts when Life360 detects they are in a car accident. If help is needed or the member doesn’t respond within a five-minute grace period, all Circle members and emergency contacts are notified via a text message with the user’s exact location. The app notification will also play a unique sound on the phone that will repeat for either 10 minutes or until the notification is acted upon. Of course, no one ever expects to be in a car crash, but the truth is that they happen more often than you might think and the time it takes to get help is critical.

<br>
Enhanced SOS, which means that after triggering an SOS Alert, a 10 second countdown will begin, after which Life360 will call and text all Circle members and emergency contacts for the Circle the alert was triggered in. Circle members will also receive a push notification. The phone call and text message will say where the user was when the SOS Alert was triggered. SOS alerts are available to all Life360 users, meaning parents of all ages, including new drivers and university students, can be reassured that if a loved one requires emergency assistance but can’t contact 999 because they are unable to talk on the phone, Life360 can help.

The Tile integration allows Life360 users’ entire "Circle" of family and friends to see the location of important items within their Life360 map. Life360 members will automatically be able to see Tile and Tile-enabled products' last reported location, so everyone in their Circle can easily locate shared items or help each other retrieve something that's been misplaced. Tiles can be attached to everyday essentials like bikes, keys, wallets, bags, and more.

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[The search is on for an outstanding postgraduate student, researching cancer at a UK university, to win up to £12,000 in funding. The deadline is August 31, 2023, so time is of the essence!

Red Trouser Day, a UK bowel/colorectal cancer charity, run by volunteers, has put out the call to postgraduate research students. Paul Finch, founder of the charity, says, "It is only through research that we can improve the treatment of cancer, and hopefully one day, see the elimination of this disease. Few know that bowel cancer is the third most common cancer worldwide, and the second most common cause of cancer fatalities, leading to almost one million deaths per year. Our award is open to all postgraduate students whose research can impact bowel cancer outcomes."

The Red Trouser Day charity, founded in 2017, is run solely by volunteers. Many of these fundraisers have had their lives affected by bowel cancer. Paul speaks on behalf of all the volunteers, "We know that an exceptional student is out there in one of the UK's excellent universities. Only by going public with this search, will this substantial bursary help a well-deserving student with their research into bowel cancer."

Everyone involved with the Red Trouser Day charity is aware that finding funding for postgraduate research is becoming increasingly difficult. Nationwide cutbacks affect everyone, including students; this is why they have prioritised this award. 95% of all the Red Trouser Day funds raised,(excluding event costs), goes to sponsor research and awareness. Paul stresses that funding is one of the most common difficulties facing postgraduate students, "Just one student, free from financial constraints, could have a major effect on fighting cancer. That talented person, with the freedom to fully focus on developing new solutions, could potentially lead to new insights."

Last year's Red Trouser Day award allowed an exceptional research student from City, the University of London, to focus solely on her work. She had been holding down two part-time jobs just to pay for her living expenses, until the Red Trouser Day charity stepped in with a bursary.
<br>

<br>
The year’s award will go to a student whose research work shows promise in furthering the understanding of bowel cancer and contributes to preventing, improving the early detection of, or improving the treatment of colorectal cancer, aligning with the charity’s goals.
<br>

<br>
So we encourage everyone to get the word out there, that the search is now on! 
<br>

<br>
In addition, there are two further discretionary awards available to help students. There is a travel award of £500, for undergraduate and postgraduate students researching cancer worldwide. This bursary can be used to fund travel to conferences, seminars, or for visits to the UK to further bowel cancer research. A final award of up to £1,000 will be available for funding research consumables. 
<br>

The closing date for all applications is August 31, 2023.

Hating herself, racked with chronic anxiety and suicidal thoughts, and feeling utterly worthless, Ronia Fraser’s relationship was literally killing her.
<br>
“I thought I was losing my mind,” confessed Ronia. “I didn’t recognise the person looking back at me in the mirror. And even worse, the people around me started to believe I was crazy. I reached a point where I knew that if I didn’t get away now, I wouldn’t be alive in a few weeks.”
<br>

<br>
Ronia, now 41, had been living her “California dream life” – she was Head of Finance for a multi-million pound global music business in Los Angeles and had a beautiful home in the exclusive Hollywood Hills. But behind the successful façade, she was trapped in a severely abusive relationship and she says that abuse survivors rarely fit the concept of abuse victims.
<br>
Considered a pioneer in the field of Narcissistic Abuse Recovery, Ronia has come a long way from the dark days of that relationship.
<br>

<br>
“He would break me down emotionally and psychologically and then made sure to leave a knife or box cutter behind for me to use and do his dirty work for him,” she admitted. “I was drugged without me knowing for almost a year, resulting in blackouts and loss of reality. I suffered gaslighting, brainwashing, intentional sleep deprivation, emotional blackmail. I developed a most profound and unimaginable sense of loss and sadness and deep self-loathing. No-one on the outside world however would have ever known that my life was less than perfect – sunshine, palm trees, the career, the lovely house in the Hills and all…”

To survive, she quit her high-powered job, dropped everything she had created for herself in America and returned to the UK where she went into hiding for two years.
<br>

<br>
“Back then, I was really struggling with my mental health as a consequence of the abuse,” she said. “Narcissistic Abuse wasn't really a thing at that time and there was little information available. I got very frustrated with the lack of results I was getting from therapy so I went out on my own with a mission to find something that would fix this.”
<br>
Today Ronia runs a highly sought after, multi-award-winning international Trauma Recovery Coaching business. Her proven roadmap to Narcissistic Abuse Recovery has helped thousands of abuse survivors from all over the world to find their way out of this nightmare. What is World Narcissistic Abuse Awareness Day (WNAAD)?

• London culture agency and creative incubator, What Does Not (WDN) hopes to harness youth culture’s explosive energy as a force for urban regeneration through emerging music initiative What Does Not NOISE

• The emerging music initiative seeks to regenerate areas depleted of authentic culture, after extensive on-the-ground research with music communities
<br>

<br>
• Putting emerging music talent centre stage in Zone 1 – new NOISE initiative by the all-female team finds undiscovered talent from across London and invites them to showcase their skills and jam in front of audiences unfamiliar with such raw creativity
<br>

<br>
• NOISE events currently take place at the Lower Third in Soho, previously the 12 Bar Club, which helped catapult Adele and Jeff Buckley to fame, in the historic ‘Tin Pan Alley’, where Bowie and the Stones recorded

<br>
• WDN has plans to take NOISE to various other central London venues that are open to supporting this initiative

Parties with purpose have been making the rounds, but do they change anything? One ambitious, all-female social enterprise is making sure the world takes note: “If you’re left feeling a little empty by the ‘work hard, play hard’ cycle, we’re saying, it’s possible for your average night out to move the dial on the status quo,” says founder of culture agency and creative incubator, What Does Not (WDN), Christine Charitonos. She's building a team of powerhouse women who are setting out to shake things up in hospitality, the creative industries and beyond.
<br>

WDN argues that music is the Trojan horse of systems change. Now that they’ve got their horse through the gates, they’re inviting lovers of new music to celebrate with them at their emerging music showcase meets curated jam night, What Does Not NOISE - next event this Friday May 26th. 
<br>

<br>
Meanwhile, they’ll continue making inroads with policymakers and corporates to bridge the grassroots with the ‘grasstops’. But how does any of this have a social impact?
<br>

<br>
“When we started embedding ourselves with the underground hip hop culture, we immediately spotted a huge problem: none of the circuit was in central London. And so NOISE was born,” says Christine. “Music being pushed into the ends was the symptom of the same disease afflicting every city: gentrification kills culture,” she adds.
<br>

<br>
“For decades the answer to regenerating areas was seen as a top-down approach of large developments. Monoculture. We’re saying, building on the heritage of a place, music can be the metabolism of our city. And we can harness the explosive energy of youth culture to breathe new life into the heart of London,” adds WDN’s partnerships and innovation director, Mary Valiakas.

“It means changing what we value, how we appreciate what is considered good, and important. We think of ourselves as advanced, but the world we live in definitely isn’t it. We can do better, so people and place can all thrive,” says Mary.
<br>

<br>
What Does Not is aiming to amplify its impact through brand partnerships for the rest of 2023 and beyond, kicking things off with cool, historic workwear brand, M.C.Overalls. Spokesperson, Rohaan Sajnani, has been to several WDN events and is a big believer in their credo that your spending power can pack a punch.
<br>

The other heavyweight in the core WDN trio, is Tamara Mikaberidze, events & project director – who brings over a decade of producing events for Universal Pictures to the fold. “Sure, corporate events are great, and you have big budgets for big productions – but we’ve been doing polished production and high curation levels, on a shoestring budget – that’s what experience in the industry gets you.”

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[This week saw the largest list of Graduates ever from any single garden design college compete at the world-famous RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2023. <a href='https://www.lcgd.org.uk/' rel='nofollow' target='_blank'>London College of Garden Design (LCGD)</a> Graduates and Students have competed in every garden category and enjoyed great success with some winning the top accolade of a Gold medal.
<br>

LCGD Director Andrew Wilson, who himself is exhibiting again at Chelsea this year, said “It’s a testament to the hard work of our tutors as well as our Graduates in being accepted to exhibit here. The show ground has also been full of our students helping on gardens and enjoying the experience of what exhibiting means.”
<br>

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[Encouraging men to study female-dominated industries could improve gender equality, reveals new research by the University of Cologne.
<br>

The study, conducted by Professor Marita Jacob together with researchers from the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB), investigated the impact of guidance counselling on gender segregation and found intensive counselling programmes contributed to gender desegregation significantly.
<br>

<br>
They found that counselling students increased the number of students who selected subjects that were not stereotypical for their gender – and this effect was more pronounced for men.
<br>

<br>
“Our analysis reveals that the programme was particularly strong on men’s subject choice. The number of men who chose subjects that are female-dominated doubled once they received counselling,” says Professor Jacob.
<br>

<br>
The researcher adds that if the programme was to be implemented on a wider scale, it would potentially lead to a much more frequent choice for men to select subjects largely studied by women.
<br>

<br>
If men studied ‘female-dominated’ fields, it would help mitigate gender stereotypes and in turn have a positive effect on women’s decisions.
<br>

<br>
“These findings reveal that gender equality can be promoted from two sides. In addition to supporting young women to aspire and succeed in male-dominated majors, programmes addressing the careers of young men – particularly in female-dominated industries – can support our goal for equality,” says Professor Jacob.
<br>

<br>
The researcher believes that interventions to improve equality are targeted exclusively to young women, but a change in perspective in educational policies to target both men and women could be effective.
<br>

<br>
This research was published in the journal Frontiers in Sociology.
<br>

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[A new commentary on research explores the strong link between neurodivergent (here identified as Autistic, ADHD, Dyspraxic/DCD and Tourette’s syndromes) children and young people (CYP) with joint hypermobility and pain as a co-occurring physical health challenge. The topical review emphasises that physical challenges frequently get overlooked compared to the mental, emotional, and sensory issues faced by neurodivergent CYP. This makes neurodivergent CYP vulnerable to unnecessary suffering and important diagnoses being delayed or missed.
<br>

<br>
Lack of diagnoses and absence of the required medical help for CYP is resulting in ongoing physical health problems including but not limited to – joint pain, gastrointestinal/stomach pains, dizziness, bowel bladder issues, heart palpitations, anxiety, and extreme fatigue and tiredness. The study co-authored by Bethany Donaghy, Dr. David Moore, and Jane Green MBE, highlights three key challenges for the children and young people in schools:

--- Symptom disbelief and lack of understanding: is a common issue as medical practitioners are not trained to trace the symptoms or conditions within neurodivergent populations. As a result, children and adults are often disbelieved and this leads to further delays in diagnosis or support in education and care.  This can lead to lifelong trauma for neurodivergent CYP.
<br>

<br>
--- Communication issues: including differences in interoception, meaning one’s inner sense, can be varied among neurodivergent CYP, and typically, it requires a lot of staff training to spot the symptoms of health conditions.  This means the people are often misunderstood, have no other choice but to learn to ‘mask’ their pain, and do not receive help or support for these physical health problems that occur with neurodivergence more than the general neurotypical population. 
<br>

--- Educational impacts: abound for neurodivergent CYP because of continuing physical health challenges due to which they end up having poorer attendance and attainment in mainstream schools as well as poorer social life with their friends/peers. This affects their mental health and wellbeing as well. Due to the mistrust or misdiagnosis in their symptoms, CYP often struggle to even get a sick note for the school from their medical practitioner due to symptomatic hypermobility being relatively unknown by medical practitioners. 
<br>

<br>
The authors recommend that “all” voices of CYP should be taken into consideration for all decisions made by educational institutions and health professionals. Increasing support for attendance and attainment, updating the school environment to help manage and understand pain, providing symptomatic hypermobility training to staff, upgrading diagnostic and treatment pathways through dual-screening for hypermobility with neurodivergence, building trust with pupils, enabling support for parents/carers and looking into the need for further funded research, are some of the ways to improve the situation.
<br>

Bethany Donaghy, the author of the research paper, explains, “Within my wider research, I speak to neurodivergent children and parents regularly and unfortunately the concerns we present here are far too common. It is unfair that the neurodivergent population continue to experience such negative outcomes with their physical health experiences. We must do more as a society to address this inequality and support neurodivergent CYP now rather than continuing to do so later."

Dr. David Moore, the author of the research paper, adds, “The lack of knowledge about pain in neurodivergent populations is concerning as pain may be the first or only sign of illness or injury, and these individuals may be both at greater risk of injury as well as requiring complex care for ongoing pain. It is clear that more work is needed prevent unnecessary suffering.”

Jane Green MBE, the author of the research paper, comments, “Having gone through the personal experience of not being believed for 54 years of my life, I myself present an acute observation to the challenge of symptom-disbelief faced by our society. I didn't mask being neurodivergent, but I learnt to mask the pain associated to being symptomatic hypermobile. The paper validates that younger generation, in addition to the older generation, continue to be mistrusted about their dual condition of hypermobility and neurodivergence. Comprehensive staff training and screening for people who work in education, health and care will help us provide the opportunity, especially to the CYP, to have much healthier and fulfilled life in education, employment and social mobility.”
