Quick Thoughts

I get the impression that World of Hyatt is finding bookings at its Under Canvas brand somewhat underwhelming given the plethora of concurrently running promotions trying to incentivize stays (including a recently expired one) and now this new Chase Offer.

As a reminder, here are the different promotions currently running when booking Under Canvas stays, several of which will stack with each other:

• World of Hyatt cardholders can earn 11x bonus points per dollar at Under Canvas properties
• Hyatt / Under Canvas promo: Get 15% points rebate on award stays
• Hyatt / Under Canvas promo: Get 1X American Airlines mile per $1

There’s also this separate World of Hyatt promotion that’s valid on all of Hyatt’s brands and will therefore stack with these other promos.

As for this Under Canvas Chase Offer, you have to spend $450 or more to trigger the 15% statement credit. With a maximum cashback limit of $70, it’ll be maxed out when spending a grand total of $466.67. If your stay will cost $900 or more and you have this offer on two or more cards, you can—in theory—ask to split the payment when checking out, charging $450 to two or more cards.

I say “in theory” because the terms suggest this might not be possible. That’s because the final line in the terms states that the Chase Offer is only valid on prepaid stays. However, the terms also state that the offer is valid both in-store and online. I’m not sure how you’d be able to make an in-store (i.e. on property) purchase with a prepaid booking, so I suspect that non-prepaid bookings will work to trigger the statement credit, but I can’t guarantee that.

Quick Thoughts

Unlike the way that most hotel loyalty programs work, ALL Accor points have a fixed value of two Euro cents each. That means that if you stay 2-4 nights and earn 1,000 bonus points, those are worth €20 (~$23), while if you stay 5+ nights and earn 5,000 bonus points, those are worth €100 (~$114). Earning rewards worth more than $100 on a stay of five nights is a decent deal and is far more rewarding than most hotel stay promotions.

Note that this offer isn’t valid for stays in the Americas, only on stays in Europe, Africa, Middle East, & Asia. If you do need to book a stay in the Americas, there’s a 2X points promo that might be applicable.

Seeing as these are all-inclusive properties (and thus food and drink is included as part of your stay), it’s likely that you’re only going to be spending $1,000 or more in a single transaction when booking paid stays. That said, if you charge spa treatments, premium drinks, activities, etc. to your room, you could conceivably spend $1,000 or more, thereby triggering the statement credit from this Chase Offer.

This offer can be used twice for a total of $200 in statement credits. If your stay comes to $2,000, you could ask the hotel to split the charge, putting $1,000 on the card you use when checking in, then give them the same card again to pay for the rest. Alternatively, if you have the offer on more than one card, you can just charge $1,000 on two or more cards, picking whichever cards are the most rewarding in terms of bonus points for hotel stays.

I found this offer on a few cards, including on my World of Hyatt credit card. That would mean also earning 4X World of Hyatt points on the stay which would be nice.

That was big news because Hyatt had never appeared on shopping portals before, but it was sadly a short-lived development because just weeks later it disappeared off portals as abruptly as it had first appeared.

Well, there’s good news on that front. World of Hyatt is back on Capital One Shopping and Capital One Offers.

The Deal

• Earn rewards when booking Hyatt stays after clicking through from Capital One Shopping or Capital One Offers.

Quick Thoughts

I’m only seeing a rate of 0.5% cashback on Capital One Shopping, while Capital One Offers is showing up as 2X miles for me. Neither of those rates are mind-blowing, but it’s better than nothing at all if you need to book paid Hyatt stays.

As a reminder, Capital One Shopping is a shopping portal that’s open to everyone. You earn cashback, but it can only be redeemed for select gift card brands.

Capital One Offers on the other hand is a shopping portal that’s only for Capital One cardholders. If you have Capital One cards that only offer cashback, you’ll earn the rewards as cashback; that’s pure cashback rather than cashback that must be redeemed for gift cards. If you have Capital One cards that earn miles, you’ll earn the rewards as miles.

No matter which of these you use, the fact that they’re shopping portals and that you’ll be booking directly with Hyatt means that you’re not giving anything up by earning these additional rewards. You’ll still earn World of Hyatt points on the stay, you’ll still earn elite night credits towards Milestone Rewards and elite status, and you’ll still be eligible for elite status benefits during your stay.

If clicking through from Capital One Offers, you don’t have to pay with a Capital One credit card. You can instead pay with a Hyatt credit card or any other card that offers bonus points on hotel stays.

Hopefully the addition of World of Hyatt on these two portals means that it’ll also start showing up on other shopping portals soon too. Note that some portals do list World of Hyatt, but those—at this point in time—are only eligible for purchases of Hyatt points, not for stays.

Also keep an eye out on your emails as you might start getting targeted emails from Capital One Shopping that offer far in excess of a meagre 0.5% cashback rate.

As always with these deals, the best option is to buy in three-card increments, as Office Depot/Max gives a $15 discount for every $300 you spend. So, buying three cards means you’re spending $600, which takes off $30. Buying nine cards means you should get $90 off, but YMMV as to whether a store will let you do that.

For every three cards you buy, you’ll pay $23.85 in fees (3x$7.95), giving you a net $6.15 in profit in addition to any additional rewards. Buying nine cards at a time triples both the profit and rewards (but will likely involve an ID check to make sure that the payment you’re using is yours).

There are different earning rates depending on what you’ll be booking. On Capital One Offers, I’m seeing the following:

• 2X miles – Special activities & Klook gift cards
• 1X miles – Universal Studios Japan Super Value Combo

Getting 32X miles for hotel and car rental bookings is a phenomenal return. Hotel stays would count as an Online Travel Agency (OTA) booking though, so they won’t earn hotel points, be eligible for elite status benefits, etc.

As a reminder, Capital One Shopping is a shopping portal that’s open to everyone. You earn cashback, but it can only be redeemed for select gift card brands.

Capital One Offers on the other hand is a shopping portal that’s only for Capital One cardholders. If you have Capital One cards that only offer cashback, you’ll earn the rewards as cashback; that’s pure cashback rather than cashback that must be redeemed for gift cards. If you have Capital One cards that earn miles, you’ll earn the rewards as miles which can make a 40X miles rate even more valuable than a 40% cashback rate if you value the miles at more than one cent per point.

To access Capital One Offers, you can find it when logging in to your Capital One account. Scroll down to the section where it says ‘Activate shopping offers’; click on ‘View all offers’ and on the next screen near the top you should see your Klook rate.

Rates are targeted through both portals. Be sure to check your emails today in case you get emails from Capital One Shopping; those email offers often provide even better rates than you might see on the Capital One Shopping website.

Quick Thoughts

This is a very easy bonus to earn on a checking account. While the terms require two direct deposits of $500 or more and state that ACH transfers will not count, data show that the direct deposit requirements can be easily met through a variety of activities.

Nick has had a Capital One 360 account for many years and has frequently used it to meet direct deposit requirements at other banks, as ACH pushes from his 360 Checking account almost always trigger those requirements. The 360 Checking account has no fees or account minimums, so it has been very easy to keep the account open over the years.

Speaking of keeping the account, there’s no early termination fee if you meet the promo terms, earn the bonus, and then decide you no longer want to keep the account. On the flip side, if you have or had an open 360 Checking, Simply Checking, or Total Control Checking account as a primary or secondary account holder with Capital One on or after January 1, 2024, you will be ineligible for the bonus.

Quick Thoughts

If you were planning a paid stay at a beach resort, this targeted Amex Offer is a good way to save up to 20% on your cost. It’s a random list of destinations, including luxury-brand locations across North and Central America.

For foreign properties, it’s important to ensure your bill will be $1250 or more by the time you stay, as advance-purchase rates aren’t included in the offer. If your total is only marginally above $1250 when converted to USD today, exchange rate fluctuations between now and your stay could cause it to drop below the limit when you actually stay.

There are now a variety of Chase Travel credits across several Ultimate Rewards-earning cards. If any of them are targeted for this offer, you should be able to stack them.

US Bank runs these promos monthly-ish; previous versions have tended to be 3-tiered, awarding between $450 and $500 when meeting the higher-tier terms. In addition, there is often a US Bank offer on Swagbucks that adds $50- $ 100 if you click through and open an account. That isn’t available right now, so if you’re interested in double-dipping, it might be worth waiting to see if the Swagbucks promo returns, or take your chances and see what comes around later in the year.

US Bank used to allow $3,000 in credit card funding for new personal checking accounts, but I think that’s now limited to $250 (still use it if you have it). This changes periodically, so if someone does the deal and finds they can deposit more, please let us know in the comments.

Quick Thoughts

This is a decent bank bonus opportunity that comes around regularly; we’ve covered versions ranging from $400 to $600 before.

The requirements are pretty simple: make at least two “direct deposits” within ninety days of account opening and sign up for mobile or online banking. US Bank is known as one of the easier banks when it comes to what it considers to be direct deposits, and ACH transfers work with many common banks (you can see the complete DOC list here). While the direct deposit amounts are relatively high, there’s no requirement that the money stay in the account, so you should be able to transfer it back out after it’s deposited.

If you don’t have a US Bank Smartly credit card, the account is easy to keep free as long as you maintain a $1,500 monthly balance or $1,500 in monthly direct deposits. Members of the US Military, those 65+ in age, or business checking account owners also get the fee waived.

The bonus is limited to those who live in states with a US Bank branch (a wide net… see locations here). That said, if you live in one of the states without a branch, most folks can get around this requirement by either having a US Bank credit card or opening one.

US Bank is fairly strict on its churning rules, so I wouldn’t mess with it if you’ve had an account or received a US Bank bonus within the past twelve months. If you haven’t, this could be easy money.

Quick Thoughts

In case you’re not familiar with Global Getaways, it’s a feature that Alaska Airlines launched a couple of years ago under its old Mileage Plan loyalty program (now Atmos Rewards). Every quarter, six destinations worldwide become bookable for a discounted number of points compared to the normal rate. Notably, the discount applies to award bookings on partner airlines, not only to flights on Alaska Airlines metal.

This month’s deals are decent, especially when factoring in the cash cost of many flights right now. For example, flying to Europe from 20,000 points is a great deal, as is Seoul for 20k. Hawaii at 11,500 is also a great deal, especially from the Midwest and East Coast, but keep in mind that Atmos does sometimes offer flights from the West Coast for as low as 7,500 points each way, albeit with a much narrower booking window.

Remember, you earn Status Points towards Atmos elite status on award bookings, and these reduced Global Getaways fares are no exception.

Quick Thoughts

Marriott Gold isn’t the most inspiring elite status; things don’t really start getting good until you reach Platinum, the next rung up. That said, if you have Marriott stays coming up, you might as well register for the offer; it’s better than nothing, especially since you can extend it through all of next year with only three stays. That said, I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to arrange stays in order to fulfill it.

The eligible new properties were previously bookable for three months ahead of time. Since March 2026 though, IHG has extended the booking window, allowing you to make reservations for the new locations up to six months in advance.

With it being the start of a new month, there’s a new list of new IHG hotels that can be booked with points for a reduced amount.

Quick Thoughts

A lot of the new IHG hotels—particularly in the US—aren’t very inspiring seeing as many are for brands like Garner, Candlewood Suites, Holiday Inn Express, etc. However, I find it’s always worth perusing the new lists because there are sometimes hotels that could be of interest.

For example, in the US there’s an Atwell Suites—one of IHG’s new brands—in Panama City Beach. This could prove to be decent value for your points. When checking October 6-9, the average points requirement with the 15% discount is 16,716 points per night. By comparison, the cash rate with the same cancellation policy is an average of $136.77 per night including tax. That means you’d be getting 0.82 cents per point of value which is almost 50% more than our Reasonable Redemption Value for IHG points, plus you can buy IHG points for only 0.5 cents per point at the moment.

Elsewhere in Florida, there’s the Holiday Inn Resort Orlando Suites – Waterpark which has one and two bedroom suites bookable with points. The two bedroom suites can accommodate up to six people, so that could be particularly useful for a larger family. When checking the award pricing for October 6-9, the one bedroom suites are bookable for only 12,750 points per night, while the two bedroom suites are available for 15,300 or 16,150 points per night, depending on which suite type you pick (there are a few).

There are a couple of caveats though. One is that IHG charges resort fees on award stays and this property’s resort fee appears to be $45 per night. I didn’t get charged a resort fee on an award stay at a Staybridge Suites in Orlando a couple of years ago, but there’s no guarantee this Holiday Inn Resort will take that same policy. The other caveat is that this hotel doesn’t have great reviews on IHG’s website, so it’d be worth looking into those reviews ahead of booking a stay.

In China there are three new voco properties, in Europe there are quite a few new (to IHG) Ruby hotels, the UK gets a couple of new voco hotels, and there’s a new voco in Darwin, Australia too.

There are lots of other new hotels, so it’s worth checking the list to see if any can save you points on upcoming stays.

Several years ago, I did a little bit of research into Delta Vacations and found that there was definitely some good value that could sometimes be gained when booking your flight and another trip element through the site.

There isn’t too much to get excited about with this transfer bonus. That’s because our Reasonable Redemption Value for Hilton points is now only 0.35 cents per point. That means that if you were to redeem Hilton points for that value on an award stay, you’d effectively only be getting 0.84 cents per point of value from your Membership Rewards points—pretty bad.

It is possible to get better value than that, especially if you can take advantage of Hilton’s 5th night free benefit on award stays for those with Silver status or higher. If you were able to get 0.6 cents per point of value, this transfer bonus would mean you’d be getting an effective 1.44 cents per point of value from your Membership Rewards which is much better, but still far from being a no-brainer.

18,750 miles for economy is the standard Promo Rewards pricing (as it’s a 25% discount on 25,000 mile awards) and there’s another decent selection of eligible cities this month, although the list isn’t quite as extensive this month as has quite often been the case in recent months.

If you can find premium economy award availability out of Los Angeles or Chicago, 30,000 miles one way isn’t bad.

Best of all is the ability to book one way business class flights between New York and Europe for only 45,000 miles. Availability for those flights can be extremely hard to come by depending on where you’ll be flying to/from in Europe, but New York to Newcastle in the north of England has excellent availability. See this post for more about that, but here’s a quick look at availability in August; as you can see, there’s availability in a few other months this year as well. There’s a ton of availability in the first few months of 2027 too, but that’s priced at 60,000 miles because these Flying Blue Promo Rewards are only valid on flights through December 31, 2026.

The better of the two is a 30% bonus when transferring Membership Rewards points to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.

You can book economy saver awards between the US and UK from 6K Virgin points (albeit with a decent amount in taxes/fees as well). With this 30% transfer bonus, you’d only need to transfer 5K Membership Rewards points for every person; that would then give you a few Virgin points left over for future redemptions.

One way premium economy awards between the US and UK are available from 10,500 points. That means that if you already have 100 Virgin points in your account, you’d only need to transfer 8K Membership Rewards points in order to have enough points to book a ticket. If you’re more interested in booking Upper Class (i.e. business class) tickets, those can be available on select dates and routes for only 35K points one way (with very high taxes and fees to go along with it). That would only require 27K Amex Membership Rewards transferred with this 30% bonus.

This transfer bonus could also come in handy for other Virgin redemptions like cruises with Virgin Voyages or this all-inclusive stay at Finch Hattons in Kenya. That latter redemption costs 100K points per night with a minimum two night stay, with that covering the cost of two people. You’d therefore only need to redeem 77K Membership Rewards points per night when transferring them from American Express.

You can also book three nights at Necker Island for two people for 750K Virgin points, with each additional night costing 250K points. That would “only” require 577K Amex points to be transferred which is, admittedly, a lot, but it could be a worthwhile bucket list redemption for some people who are flush with Membership Rewards points and who’d rather not transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards that are also offering a 30% transfer bonus right now.

Capital One normally transfers to EVA Air on a 1,000:750 basis, so with this 30% bonus that ratio improves to 1,000:975.

A transfer bonus that still doesn’t quite make the transfer ratio 1:1 might not sound as appealing as some others, but there is value to be had here. Here’s EVA’s award chart for travel between the US and Asia:

Now, redeeming 50K or 55K for a one way flight in economy isn’t great, but 75K or 80K for business class is a solid enough redemption, especially seeing as EVA Air provides better business class award availability for its Infinity MileageLands members than it does its partner airlines. You’d need to transfer 77K Capital One miles in order to get 75K with the 30% transfer bonus, while for the 80K tier you’d need to transfer 82,100 miles (Capital One lets you transfer in 100 increments after the first 1K miles transferred; thanks to Grant in the comments for the reminder about that).

Booking award flights directly with EVA isn’t always the most straightforward, so it’s definitely worth checking out Tim’s helpful guide for booking award flights with them. It can certainly be worth the effort as EVA Air’s business class product is superb. My wife and I had a chance to experience it almost 10 years ago and it’s still one of my favorite business class experiences. Tim has a more recent business class review here for his flight from Seattle to Taipei last year.
