Quick Thoughts

A $25 Uber gift card isn’t a huge incentive, but it’s a nice little bonus if you were planning on buying a Delta gift card anyway.

It can be made even better if you were targeted for an Amex Offer that’s only available for Delta cardholders. That Delta gift card Amex Offer is awarding five additional SkyMiles per dollar spent on Delta gift cards, on up to $2,000 of gift cards. That means buying a $300 Delta gift card while paying with a card with that Amex Offer would earn you 1,800 SkyMiles (1X base plus 5X bonus), as well as a $25 Uber gift card.

That might make it more worthwhile if you know you’ll be booking paid Delta flights, but bear in mind that paying with a gift card might mean you’d be forgoing travel protections had you paid for the flight with a credit card. Also be aware that you can’t use Delta gift cards to pay for taxes/fees on award flights.

Shopping portal Rakuten is offering cash back bonuses for those who open select credit cards through the Rakuten portal. These bonuses being offered by Rakuten stack on top of the introductory card holder bonus offered by the respective banks. We are currently seeing boosted rates of up to $125 back, which could alternatively become 12,500 Bilt points for Bilt elite members who choose to earn Bilt points if you’re approved for a specific Bank of America credit card.

This isn’t quite as good as the recent high offers of $300/$175 that we saw in the past. However, it’s nonetheless good to see offers continuing to roll in via Rakuten.

Quick Thoughts

If you have one of these cards in mind, these bonuses can be a terrific deal, although it might be possible to do better via referrals.

In the past, Bank of America didn’t provide rewards for existing cardholders referring other people to new cards. That recently changed on a targeted basis, so you might be able to earn $100 cashback by referring your partner (or vice versa). On the Chase side, if you have a household member who’s able to refer you, you should check for a referral offer because it might make more sense to go through your household member’s referral link. Either way, stacking additional cash back or Bilt points on top of one of these welcome offers can be a really nice enhancement.

Keep in mind that these offers can and do change frequently. We don’t know how long these offers will last, nor if they’ll increase or decrease in the coming days.

Award pricing was all over the place depending on the origin and destination airports. In at least one case though, I find wide open award availability for at least four people from the US to Europe from June to August 2026 and again from January to March 2027, something that’s notoriously hard to find usually with Flying Blue.

I’d found that availability out of New York, but the pricing depended on where you’re flying to in Europe. For example, if you just want a nonstop business class award to Paris (Air France’s hub) in February, you’re looking at having to redeem at least 170,500 miles.

If you were to fly through Paris or Amsterdam on the way to Dublin, the pricing drops to a still-high 101,000 miles one way in February.

If you instead wished to fly to London in February, it’s possible to get that for 67,000 miles. Unfortunately that’s on one solitary day at the start of the month, with everything else that month being 138,000+ miles. As you can see in the screenshot below though, every month from January to May has at least one day bookable for 67,000 miles which isn’t much higher than the standard business class award pricing of 60,000 miles.

It’s on flights to Newcastle where the availability and pricing really shines though. I’d searched this as it’s the closest “major” airport to where we live and I couldn’t believe how many days in February had at least one flight bookable for only 60,000 miles—that’s only 48,000 Membership Rewards with the current Amex transfer bonus. January and March had similar availability too.

I figured there might only be availability for one person, but that’s not the case. Here’s the availability for two people (note that the award calendar displays the total cost for two people, so 120,000 miles is the total cost for two people).

But what if you have a family of four you need to book for? Good news—there’s availability for four people for 60% of that month. The taxes and fees would total more than $1,000 which would mean you could take advantage of this Amex Offer that’s awarding 20,000 bonus Membership Rewards if you’re targeted.

All the 60K award availability that I found routed through Paris rather than Amsterdam. Seeing as you’d be flying on Air France metal rather than KLM, it would sadly mean you wouldn’t get a Delft house, but that’s a minor disappointment in the grand scheme of things.

I wasn’t able to find other cities with wide open 60K pricing, but I only checked just over half a dozen cities. Air France and KLM have such a massive route network that I wouldn’t be surprised if there were other opportunities out there.

The screenshots in this post use February as an example as that’s where I was tending to find slightly more reasonable pricing to other cities, but there’s excellent availability from June through August this year too from New York to Newcastle.

In case you’re not familiar with Newcastle, it’s a city in the northeast of England. It’s only a 2.5 hour drive to Edinburgh in Scotland, or a 1.5 hour train ride that can cost less than $35. You can also take a train down to London in about 3-3.5 hours (it’s a ~5-6 hour drive), or a car or train to Liverpool in 3.5 hours. If you’d like to check out the beautiful Lake District, that’s a 1.5-2 hour drive from Newcastle. This award availability could therefore be a good option if you want to explore the UK and don’t mind traveling a bit from the airport you arrive at.

The Deal

• American Express is offering a 25% transfer bonus to Air France/KLM Flying Blue.

Flying Blue launched a new set of Promo Rewards yesterday which gives an opportunity to book economy awards between many US cities and Europe for 18,750 miles one way. With this 25% transfer bonus, you’d only need to transfer 15,000 Membership Rewards points per person.

If you can find business class awards at standard pricing between the US and Europe, the 60,000 miles you’ll need per person would only require 48,000 Membership Rewards points to be transferred. While 60K business class awards can be pretty hard to come by with Flying Blue, there is a surprising amount of availability out of New York from January to March 2027 right now to some cities.

Bear in mind that Flying Blue awards come with somewhat high taxes and fees. You might be able to mitigate some of that impact if you’re targeted for this Amex Offer that awards 20,000 bonus Membership Rewards points when spending $1,000. Note that the Amex Offer is only valid for flights departing the US, so it’s not helpful for one way awards departing Europe.

Quick Thoughts

United runs a promotion like this every year, although the transfer bonus percentage differs from year to year. Last year it was 25%, but for several years before that it was 30%. Somewhat interestingly, United normally runs this kind of promotion in September or October, so this latest iteration has shown up a few months earlier than usual.

This promotion isn’t going to be worth it for transfers from the vast majority of hotel programs, although there are a couple of potential exceptions. One is if you have orphaned points in a hotel program where they’ll expire before you’re likely to redeem them and you don’t consider it worth ensuring there’s some kind of other activity on your account to keep those points alive.

The other exception is Marriott. Every three Marriott Bonvoy points you transfer convert to one airline mile in a wide variety of programs, one of which is United. For every 60,000 Marriott points you transfer to airlines, you get 5,000 bonus miles (i.e. 60,000 points becomes 25,000 miles). Marriott has a partnership with United that enhances that bonus to 10,000 miles, so every 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points transferred becomes 30,000 MileagePlus miles.

This 25% bonus makes that transfer ratio even better, although it’s only calculated on the base transfer rather than the additional 10,000 bonus miles you get for every 60,000 points transferred. That means that with this latest promotion, transferring 60,000 Marriott points will get you 35,000 United MileagePlus miles. That’s certainly not a no-brainer transaction, but it might make sense if you have an abundance of Marriott points and have a high value United redemption in mind.

There’s another potential future scenario where this transfer bonus could be of interest and that’s when transferring Wyndham Rewards points. Last year, Wyndham ran a concurrent promotion with United’s 25% bonus that awarded a 100% bonus on transferred points. That gave an effective transfer ratio of two Wyndham points for every one United mile. There’s no such Wyndham 100% bonus right now, but perhaps we’ll see one before the month is up.

Before transferring any kind of hotel points though, be aware that you could be waiting for the bonus miles for a looooooooong time. The terms state that “Bonus miles will be credited into the member’s account on or before January 31, 2027.” That’ll be the 25% bonus miles, rather than the standard amount of miles you’ll initially get from the transfer. Still, that’s a ridiculously long delay if that’s how long it actually takes for the bonus miles to be awarded. I find it hard to believe that’ll be how long it takes, so hopefully the bonus miles show up sooner than that; please let us know in the comments if you take advantage of this transfer bonus and the bonus miles appear immediately.

For what it’s worth, when United ran this same promotion last year, the offer ran from October 1-31, 2025 and the terms stated that the bonus miles would be awarded by January 31, 2026. I suspect they simply updated the year in the terms from 2026 to 2027, without taking into account that the deal is running four months earlier than in 2025. If there was a similar delay to last year, that would mean the bonus miles would be credited by September 30, 2026—a similar three month wait after the offer ends. That’s pure speculation on my part though; perhaps United can only be bothered to reconcile bonuses from these transfers once per year and they’re fixated on a January 31 date.

The Citi Strata Elite Card comes with up to $200 per year in statement credits for Blacklane. That’s divided up as:

• up to $100 in statement credits from January to June
• up to $100 in statement credits from July to December

If you haven’t yet used your Blacklane credit for this half of the year, this promo code should make it possible for you to get a ride that would ordinarily cost $150 for nothing out of pocket. As a reminder, Blacklane is a chauffeur service, sort of like Uber, but for a more white-glove type service. Generally speaking, it’s more expensive than Uber, although between the promo code and the statement credit from the Strata Elite, you could probably save some over what a similar Uber would cost. I find this most useful for airport drop-offs and pick-ups, although in some cities, you can almost use it as an Uber replacement, as you can order a Blacklane from one location to another in a city like New York.

According to Doctor of Credit, a Blacklane reservation does not finalize the charge until after you’ve completed the ride, so if you haven’t used your January to June credit yet, you’ll need to use it on a ride that you complete before June 30th. Therefore, this code would probably be most useful if you have a near-term need for a ride. On the other hand, if you’ve already used your credit for this half of the year, maybe it is possible to apply this code to a booking for the July-to-December period and use it in conjunction with that credit, since the charge will presumably be finalized later? I’m not sure what the end date for this promo code is meant to be.

When you take Blacklane, everything is included in the cost, so there’s no expectation of an additional tip. Hopefully, some readers are able to make use of this discount.

Our Reasonable Redemption Value for Marriott Bonvoy points is only 0.77 cents per point. Further, Marriott frequently puts their points on sale for less than one cent per point. That means that even with a 20% transfer bonus, you’re likely to only get around one cent per point in value, give or take.

Our Reasonable Redemption Value for American Express Membership Rewards points is 1.5 cents per point. In most cases, you’ll do far better by transferring your points to airline partners and even perhaps to Hilton with a transfer bonus than you will with this Marriott Bonvoy transfer bonus. In fact, if you’ve got a Schwab Platinum card, you may even be better off cashing your points out and buying them when they go on sale if you ultimately want to turn your Membership Rewards points into Marriott points and you don’t need the Marriott points immediately. However, if you’re just looking to top off for a particularly valuable award redemption, there are surely some instances where this transfer bonus could make sense.

There surely are some outliers. If you see our full analysis post titled “What Are Marriott Bonvoy Points Worth?” you’ll see that at the 90th percentile, Marriott Bonvoy points are worth around 1.11c per point.  Even at that 90th percentile with a 20% transfer bonus, you’d be looking at getting about 1.33 cents per membership reward point. That’s better than cashing out via Schwab, but not necessarily great value for Amex points. At the very top end, we saw some opportunities to get north of three cents per Marriott Bonvoy point, and obviously, if you find an outlier among outliers, you could find a situation where this might make sense. However, in general, we wouldn’t recommend transferring Membership Rewards points to Marriott Bonvoy.

Quick Thoughts

All but one of the participating routes between the United States and Europe are only discounted in economy class this time around, which continues a long trend of mostly discounting economy class tickets during these promo reward sales. Las Vegas gets a nod with premium economy starting from 30,000 miles each way. The only routes with discounted business class availability between the Americas and Europe are Toronto, Panama City, St. Martin, and Bogota (there are also a couple of premium economy destinations for those who can position outside of the United States).

While 18,750 miles one way for economy class to Europe sounds like a pretty good deal (and it can be in the right situation), keep in mind that Air France KLM Flying Blue has increased award surcharges in recent months. The quality of the deal depends very much on the prices between your home airport and Europe. In some cases, you could be getting a phenomenal deal, and in other cases, it might be more marginal, particularly for departures from East Coast cities like New York and Boston that frequently have more competitive airfares to Europe. If you’re able to pair this with a good point transfer bonus, then the deal can become slicker yet. Note that we sometimes see a little bit of variance in Flying Blue award pricing, though I think they’ve eliminated most of the opportunities to pay even less than the advertised price. Still, it can be worth checking even if your city isn’t on the list, as we do sometimes see additional routes pricing favorably.

Keep in mind that promo rewards are subject to the same 70 EUR change and cancellation penalty as other Flying Blue award tickets, so there isn’t a significant disadvantage to booking one of these over an ordinary award. You’re simply able to lock in a bit of a discount over the more typical saver-level economy class award pricing of 25,000 miles each way. You can even potentially book a stopover on one of these discounted economy class awards, though stopovers need to be booked over the phone with customer service.

You might be able to stack the opportunity to earn 20,000 Amex Membership Rewards points if your taxes and fees amount to $1,000 or more, and you book directly through the Air France or KLM websites or apps (though not if you’re booking a stopover over the phone). With numerous programs instituting devaluations over the last year or two, this can be one of the cheapest mileage deals to Europe, apart from Virgin Atlantic’s pricing for both some of their own flights and Air France KLM flights.

Speaking of that, if you’re traveling during off-peak times, it certainly can be worth taking a look at Virgin Atlantic because they do charge fewer miles and in some cases, maybe less in surcharges. Particularly if you see a transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic, you might get a significantly better deal booking the same flights through Virgin Atlantic, even after considering the promo reward pricing. That won’t be the case in all situations, so you’ll just have to use an award search tool or take the time to search for your desired dates and routes to see which program offers the deal you need.

Quick Thoughts

Vacation packages don’t always present an opportunity for savings, though we have sometimes seen particularly notable deals, usually directly through airline websites. It can sometimes make sense to book a vacation package even with a throwaway hotel or car rental in order to get significant savings on the flight. In this case, I’m seeing pretty significant savings that probably happen on the hotel side, which makes some of these vacation packages potentially worthwhile.

The first vacation package I lchecked was the first cheap-ish option I noticed on the home page, which was a package from Miami to the Bahamas for $585 per person. Sure enough, that exact deal at $585 per person is available at the time of writing. It would be from August 18th to the 22nd, departing from Miami for the Bahamas on American Airlines in basic economy, and staying at the Courtyard by Marriott Nassau Junkanoo Beach.

Setting aside for a moment whether you would actually be interested in booking basic economy or this particular hotel, from a price perspective, it’s a pretty solid deal. The flights alone would cost $586 for two people, and the hotel, booked via the Marriott website, starts at $868 for the same dates with a flexible cancellation policy. That’s a total of 1,454 to book separately so you’re saving more than $370 by booking through Vacations by Marriott.

Interestingly if you wanted main cabin on those flights, it was only an additional $35 per person through Marriott, whereas you can see main cabin would cost about $70 more per person if booked directly through American.

Whether or not that specific example applies to you, it’s interesting to see that there is potentially significant savings available. Unfortunately, while Marriott presents that package as an example on their home page, it isn’t actually qualifying for this promotion because this promotion requires booking a package that includes a hotel stay of a minimum of five nights. Nonetheless, the savings over five nights would be similar, and in the case of the Bahamas, you could even score a pretty good deal for one of the towers at Atlantis.

Whether or not there’s a deal to the specific destination you have in mind is obviously going to vary from one person to another. The bottom line is that if you’re looking at booking cash rates for a hotel and revenue fares for a flight for a trip you’re considering, or if you can find a route or hotel that is notably inexpensive, it might be worth looking through Vacations by Marriott both for the opportunity to save some money and potentially the opportunity to stack with this promotion.

Turkish Miles & Smiles became all the rage in 2019 when we first reported that, at the time, it was possible to book domestic United flights, including from the mainland to Hawaii, for just 7,500 miles each way. At the time, they also had some solid rates for partner business class awards to Europe and beyond. Unfortunately, they’ve devalued their award charts in recent years, and even if you could find availability, they’ve now increased their pricing to more or less match what United charges for those awards. However, Turkish Miles & Smiles still has some solid use cases.

For instance, business class between the United States and Turkiye costs 65,000 miles each way on Turkish-operated flights. Turkish does add surcharges on those awards; however, if you’re getting a 50% transfer bonus from Rove, you would only need to transfer 44,000 Rove miles to Turkish Miles & Smiles to book that award. Tim has reviewed Turkish business class between the US and Europe.

Flying partners in Business Class to Europe costs either 85k or 90k Turkish miles one way, which would be 60k or fewer Rove miles with this bonus. That could certainly be good for business class Star Alliance Awards to Europe, particularly for those based on the West Coast. The Middle East for 93,000 Turkish Miles and Smiles miles each way in business class is another potentially strong use case, given that you would only need 62,000 Rove miles. Further, we frequently see Turkish offer limited-time promotions that discount economy class awards by as much as 50%.

All that said, Turkish Miles and Smiles is notoriously poor when it comes to customer service, and their website has long been incredibly glitchy. Sometimes, the ability to pay for an award is suspended for months at a time, so there just won’t be a button to submit your payment details on the final checkout page. In those cases, you would be at the mercy of whatever phone agent you can reach, which is often an exercise in frustration, with many phone agents being woefully unable to find Star Alliance award space that you could otherwise see on the website. There’s definitely some element of gamble where I would only consider this transfer bonus if I had an award that I wanted to lock in right away and I was reasonably confident that my travel plans wouldn’t change.

It is very encouraging to see Rove continue solid transfer bonuses like this one. Based on our Current Point Transfer Bonuses page, it looks like Citi has been the only other program to offer a 50% transfer bonus to Turkish Miles and Smiles from any other program. Airline transfer bonuses just don’t tend to be so high from any programs other than Bilt and Rove.

Rove has really been on a roll both in adding new transfer partners and in offering compelling transfer bonuses over the last year. It’s good to see that trend continue, even if this isn’t a bonus I’m likely to use.

Quick Thoughts

This offer comes around once or twice a year, and it’s always popular. You could obviously use this offer as a nice rebate on a cash ticket on Air France or KLM. However, many readers of this site will find this one compelling because Flying Blue award taxes and fees should also trigger the offer. Flying Blue taxes and fees are unfortunately now high enough that two passengers flying round trip to Europe in business class would easily meet the minimum spend. For families traveling on award tickets, it will be very easy to trigger the offer even for a one-way ticket departing the United States.

Do keep in mind that the offer terms stipulate that your itinerary must originate in the United States and be charged in US dollars. A one-way award ticket departing Europe would not be expected to trigger the offer since that would be charged in Euros.

Depending on how you value Amex Membership Rewards points, this can be an awesome rebate on $1,000 in spend. Based on our Reasonable Redemption Value, the 20,000 points are worth about $300, though you may value Membership Rewards points even more highly.

Also worth knowing is that only purchases made on the Air France or KLM website or via their app count. The offer terms specifically note that purchases made over the phone will not trigger the offer. That is important because while Air France and KLM allow a stopover on award tickets, those stopover tickets can only be booked over the phone, which would theoretically not trigger this offer.

Overall, this can be a great deal, but you’ll want to enroll sooner rather than later because this one does tend to fill up and disappear sooner rather than later.

As reported by Award Wallet, American Express Membership Rewards seems to have lost a transfer partner this morning. As of June 1, 2026, Qantas Frequent Flyer is no longer showing up in the list of transfer partners for Membership Rewards points in the United States. That’s a surprising development, given that I don’t recall having seen any prior notice of a change in transfer partners, and I can’t recall a time when Amex has dropped a transfer partner without warning.

We have heard quite a few reader reports recently of folks getting tripped up by phantom Japan Airlines award space showing up via Qantas Frequent Flyer (transferring points only to be unable to book the award they thought was available). One has to wonder if this is somehow related to customer complaints. That said, it feels hard to imagine that the small handfulls of customer complaints over transferring points to a pretty niche program would drive Amex to drop Qantas entirely. I’m not really sure what’s going on here.

While Qantas Frequent Flyer is a bit of a niche program in the sense that it doesn’t have quite as many clear sweet spots as some other programs, it was nonetheless useful in some cases for short-distance connecting OneWorld itineraries, for flying Israeli carrier El Al, and occasionally for flying some partners. Additionally, I believe that Qantas Frequent Flyer released additional award space on its own flights to its own members. Though award pricing wasn’t very competitive, I think it occasionally offered opportunities for award seats that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to book.

I’m just really surprised to see Amex drop Qantas without any prior notice or notification after the fact. That’s not typical of Amex. Rather, we usually get some notice before changes with Transfer Partners.

That leads me to wonder whether there’s a technical problem at play. However, in the past, when there have been technical problems with certain partners like Emirates, Amex has shown a notification on the transfer partner page about transfers being temporarily down. In this case, Qantas has been scrubbed entirely from the list of Transfer Partners, so I suppose this must be a permanent change. Hopefully, they don’t make a habit of removing partners without prior notice because it would be a real shame for a member to collect Membership Rewards points with a specific use case in mind, only to have the transfer partner they were targeting removed without prior notice.

Quick Thoughts

As noted at the top, this is a bonus being offered by Qatar Airways Privilege Club. The biggest catch is that the bonus Avios are awarded separately later on. That is to say that Qatar will take the cumulative sum of the points you transfer from qualifying partners between June 1st and June 30th, figure your 30% bonus, then award the 30% bonus by July 31st, 2026.

Since you don’t know exactly when you’re going to receive the bonus, you can’t really take advantage of this transfer bonus in order to lock in an award you see available right now, since you don’t know whether that award will be available when the bonus comes through. That’s my least favorite form of transfer bonus, since you’ll potentially end up with points you don’t actually need.

That said, if you ave a near-term need to book an award with Avios anyway and you are going to transfer one-to-one to one of the Avios programs, you might as well make it Citi ThankYou to Qatar Airways Avios, book your award, and then end up with what will essentially be a nice rebate in the form of the bonus Avios that show up later on. For those who use Avios quite frequently, that’ll be useful. Keep in mind that Avios is one of the unique programs that serves several different airlines, so you can actually move your Avios from Qatar Airways to British Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Aer Lingus, or Logan Air. That makes Avios a more useful tool in the sense that you can take advantage of the sweet spots from multiple programs. As a result, this transfer bonus is even more useful than it may appear on the surface.

Qatar Airways does have some sweet spots of its own, particularly the fact that they release additional business class award space to their own members that you won’t necessarily find available through other programs. If you’re looking to fly Qatar Q Suites, then this transfer bonus could certainly help you get there, particularly if it’s a booking you’re considering at some point down the road.

That said, I always caution against speculatively transferring points because you never know when a program is going to devalue. Our advice is usually to transfer only when you have a near-term, specific use case in mind. However, with this transfer bonus being offered later on, this lends itself more to those who would transfer speculatively. For those who use Avios frequently, a speculative transfer might not be a bad deal. Again, that’s a little easier to consider with Avios since you do have the flexibility to move them from one Avios program to another, so you’re not necessarily locked into one airline program that could devalue at any time.

Bilt Rewards has announced details of the next Rent Day, with this one happening on June 1. It offers a transfer bonus of 25%-125%, but it’ll likely be of limited appeal seeing as it’s to TAP Air Portugal.

TAP Air Portugal is a loyalty program that tends to get overlooked simply because there’s limited appeal for North American travelers based on its award chart pricing. For example, flights between Portugal and the US cost 100,000 miles one way in business class which is less competitive than many other programs.

That might make it seem appealing if you have Platinum status as it effectively means you’d only have to transfer 50,000 Bilt Rewards points. However, it might be better to wait for a future transfer bonus to a different program that has more reasonable award pricing in the first place.

Like last month, Bilt has placed a limit on the number of points you can transfer over that’ll be bonused to 100,000. That in turn limits how much value you’ll get from redeeming $150 Bilt Cash in order to boost your transfer ratio by 25%. Redeeming $150 Bilt Cash will therefore earn you a maximum of 25,000 bonus TAP Air Portugal miles which may or may not be worth it to you.

The limit is nine per customer per day in-store, although some stores may allow more. Different stores appear to have different policies regarding the variable-load cards that some Staples now sell. Some folks report that fees are waived when they purchase them…others find that they aren’t. Your mileage may vary.

As a reminder, Capital One Shopping is a shopping portal that’s available to anyone, even if you don’t have any Capital One credit cards. If you do have any of their cards, be sure to check Capital One Offers too, a portal that’s available for cardholders only. On there I’m seeing 20X miles for StubHub, although you might see a rate that’s higher or lower than that. To view your Capital One Offers, log in to your Capital One account and scroll down to the section where it says ‘Activate shopping offers.’ Click on ‘View all offers’ and on the next screen near the top you should see your StubHub rate. If you have a card that earns miles, you’ll earn miles. If you have a card that earns cashback, you’ll earn that as cashback.

These boosted rates could be particularly appealing for anyone who has a Chase Sapphire Reserve card. That’s because the personal version of that card (but not the business version) has a $150 Stubhub credit for January to June each year and another $150 credit for July to December. If you haven’t redeemed your January to June credit, this might be the most rewarding opportunity you’re going to get before that expires.

This should work with Capital One Offers too. Although you have to be a Capital One cardholder to access that program, you don’t have to pay with a Capital One card. You could therefore pay with your Sapphire Reserve and earn 20X miles, or whatever rate you’re targeted for.

It’s been a couple of years since I’ve seen a spending bonus on one of my Hilton cards. On this one, hitting exactly $2,000 in spending effectively gives you an additional 4.5x earnings. We value Hilton Honors points at ~.4 cents each, so the additional 2x adds up to 1.8% in additional return.

That certainly doesn’t sound like much, but I was targeted on a Hilton Surpass card, which earns 6x on grocery and gas and 3x everywhere.

Let’s say I was plugging away at the yearly $15,000 spend requirement for a free night certificate (FNC) on that card. Adding this bonus means I’m now getting 7.5x-10.5x on the next $6k in spend, and will end up with an additional 27,000 points added to my total (assuming I can do all $ 6,000 to trigger the offer three times before it expires). That’s a nice little sweetener for the spending I was already going to do.

Currently, the 4x promo on 3rd-party gift cards is limited to “gaming and digital content” cards. Fortunately for those resellers out there, reports are that Apple is triggering the 4x promo (h/t: DOC)

Both deals are valid only through 6/2 for Visa/MC cards; 6/9 for third-party.

Note that the terms on this promo now state that Amazon and fuel gift cards are excluded from earning 4x. You’ll still earn 2x fuel points (the normal rate).

The Deal

Quick Thoughts

When buying third-party gift cards, you can earn 4x fuel points, saving you up to 14% on gas. To illustrate how that 14% figure is calculated, let’s say you spend $250 on gift cards during the promotion. That would earn you 1,000 fuel points, which can be redeemed for $1 off per gallon on up to 35 gallons. If you’re able to refuel to that 35-gallon limit (perhaps with a large gas tank or refueling 2+ household vehicles at once), you’d save $35. Saving $35 on the original $250 in gift card spend amounts to a 14% discount.

If your gas tank is smaller, though, your savings won’t be as high. For example, our car holds at most 12 gallons, so we can barely save 5% on gas through these promotions, given how much we spend on gift cards. You can often get better discounts on gift cards through sites like Raise, so weigh up all your options before buying them at full price from Kroger or its affiliates, such as Dillons, King Soopers, Ralphs, Fry’s, or Smith’s.

You can earn 4x fuel points on gift cards purchased online or in-store, though there are a couple of important differences between the two. If you’ll be buying in-store, you have to load the digital coupons to your account first, whereas you’ll automatically earn 4x fuel points when buying gift cards online from Kroger.

The other thing to bear in mind is that buying gift cards in-store lets you take advantage of the plethora of cards offering bonus spend at grocery stores right now. Kroger’s online gift card site processes payments through Blackhawk Network (owner of GiftCardMall and GiftCards.com), so those online orders don’t code as grocery purchases.

Unlike many recent sales on Wyndham points, the annual 100,000-point purchase limit appears to be in effect for this one. That limit is calculated before the bonus, so if you have not yet purchased points this year, you could buy as many as 180,000 total points (100K + 180K bonus) for $1,300…that sure would be a lot of Wyndham points, though.

Even though the rewards here are “only” for 1,000 miles, that’s an extremely good return considering you only need to spend $20 in most cases. Even if you only value Capital One miles at 1 cent per point, that’s like getting 50% back on your purchase; if you plan on transferring the miles to travel partners, the value could be even better than that.

What makes these offers even better is that there are so many useful eligible retailers. It’s not a bunch of random sites that you wouldn’t normally spend money at. Instead, it includes retailers like Home Depot, Dollar General, eBay, Macy’s, Sam’s Club, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Chewy, and more. If you have a Cumberland Farms near you and are targeted for these offers, you can even earn 1,000 bonus miles when filling up with $20 of gas.

As a reminder, Capital One Offers is a shopping portal that’s only available for Capital One cardholders. To see if you’re targeted, log in to your account and scroll down to the section where it says ‘Activate shopping offers.’ Click on ‘View all offers’ and scroll down to see if you have any similar offers. You’ll earn the rewards in miles if you have a miles-earning card. If you only have Capital One cards that earn cashback, your rewards will be earned in cashback (so presumably $10 back when spending $20).

Capital One Offers sometimes have an unlisted limit of one for these types of spending deals. That’s less of an issue in this scenario where the bonus is a flat 1,000 miles across most (or all) of these offers; it’s more of an issue when there are significantly more rewarding offers of varying amounts, such as earning 10,000 or 20,000 bonus miles, where it makes more sense to redeem the most rewarding offer first in case the rest disappear afterwards.

Also be sure to check if an offer is online-only, or if you can also redeem it in-store too as that could make it even more useful. For example, you might not care about spending $20 at Dollar General online, but spending $20 in-store could be much easier, especially considering Dollar General sells a wide range of gift cards.

Double check the terms of Capital One Offers too. For example, neither my wife nor I are targeted for these offers, but we both have an offer for 15X in-store at Dollar General. While that sounds great, it’s capped at 200 miles per transaction which greatly limits its utility.
