Quick Thoughts

There are no monthly fees or minimums on Amex Rewards Checking, so it’s an easy enough account to open with no ongoing “gotchas” to worry about. The account features a debit card that earns 1 Membership Rewards point for every $2 spent. I personally wouldn’t even think about using that for anything Amex wouldn’t like, since the rewards are relatively small.

It is a big bummer that current and former Rewards Checking account customers aren’t eligible for the bonus, which may disqualify many readers. On the other hand, if you haven’t ever had a Rewards Checking account, this could possibly be an easy $600 in a 2-player household.

This is a pretty good deal, especially since the bonus Membership Rewards will presumably be awarded even if you spend $1,000+ on taxes and fees on an award booking for one or more people.

Note that the terms state that travel has to originate in the US. If you were to book a one-way or round-trip award flight originating in the US, that’ll trigger the bonus points. However, if you were to book a one-way award originating in Europe, that presumably won’t be eligible.

One of the best cards to use this on – if you’re targeted – is a personal Amex Platinum card. That’s because you’ll also earn 5x Membership Rewards; spending $1,000+ will therefore earn you a total of at least 25,000 Membership Rewards.

Giftcards.com (GCC) charges a $5.95 purchase fee on $100 Virtual Visa gift cards, so getting 10% off means you “make” $4.05 profit per card before any kind of costs you had liquidating the cards in one way or another…and assuming that you can redeem the gift card in an effective way.

If you’re not familiar with Global Getaways, it’s a feature Alaska Airlines launched a couple of years ago under its old Mileage Plan loyalty program (now Atmos Rewards). Every quarter, six destinations worldwide become bookable for fewer points than the normal rate. Notably, the discount applies to award bookings on partner airlines, not only to flights on Alaska Airlines metal.

This month’s deals are decent, especially given the cash cost of many flights right now. For example, flying to Europe for 20,000 points is a great deal, and Samoa for 25,500 is too. The Asia deals amount to a 10,000- to 12,500-mile discount for most of the US to Tokyo or Taipei.

Remember, you earn Status Points towards Atmos elite status on award bookings, and these reduced Global Getaways fares are no exception.

Needless to say, the particular offer listed above is far from being an amazing spending offer seeing as it only offers an incremental 0.2 bonus miles per dollar spent for the next two months, with an additional 0.1 bonus mile per dollar awarded if you spend $500 in both September and October.

However, if you’re targeted for it on a new card and you’re working towards the minimum spending requirement, or you’ll be using your card anyway, earning additional bonus miles is always something that’s nice to have.

There may well be other spending offers out there that are more generous than this one that my wife and I were both targeted for, so it’s worth checking to see if you’re eligible. I didn’t see this when logging in to our Citi accounts; instead, I found it in the Promotions section of our American Airlines AAdvantage accounts.

In case you’re not familiar with the SimplyMiles program, it’s a program that awards both miles and Loyalty Points in the American Airlines AAdvantage loyalty program. All you have to do is link one or more Mastercards (Visa, Amex, etc. aren’t eligible) and activate any offers you’re interested in. Provided you meet the terms of the offer and pay with a linked card, you’ll earn the bonus miles and Loyalty Points.

The fact that it’s a card-linked offer makes it even more appealing because it means that you can stack it with other offers. For example, you can get up to $120 back every calendar year when renting with Avis (or Budget) and paying with a Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®. That’s a Mastercard, so you’d be able to link that to your SimplyMiles account and earn both the statement credit and the miles + Loyalty Points.

You can also click through to Avis from a shopping portal to earn rewards from there, not to mention the ability to use some kind of discount or corporate code to reduce the price of the Avis rental.

In case you’re not familiar with SimplyMiles, it’s a program that awards both redeemable American Airlines AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points towards elite status in the AAdvantage program when paying with a linked card. It’s important to be aware that you can only link Mastercard credit cards, although they don’t have to be American Airlines Mastercards—they can be any type of Mastercard.

This particular offer is valid at the Giant Food chain that has stores in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C. There’s a separate Giant grocery store chain that’s owned by the same parent company, but which has a different logo and operates in different states to those listed above (Pennsylvania is one of those other states). The eligible Giant chain has the logo in the screenshot above.

The terms state that you can use this offer up to two times, with a limit of 465 miles and 465 Loyalty Points. I’m not sure if that means you can earn up to 465 miles and 465 Loyalty Points in each transaction, or if that’s the total cap across two transactions. There are sometimes Citi Offers for Giant too. Citi Offers don’t stack with SimplyMiles offers—you can only use one or the other. Sometimes when you activate a SimplyMiles offer, the Citi Offer disappears and vice versa. As a result, it’s best to load/activate whichever offer you’re interested in first, which is particularly important if you use a service like CardPointers which autoloads Citi Offers.

Seeing as Giant Food is a grocery store, the best card to pay with will generally be one that offers bonus rewards on grocery spend like the Citi Strata Premier℠ card, or perhaps the IHG One Rewards Premier credit card if you were targeted for the 7X spending offer this quarter as that’s also a Mastercard.

This Chase Offer could stack indirectly with both the current Caesars Amex Offers and the Citi Offer, provided the payment is made within the appropriate timeframe.

Flying Blue Promo Rewards usually have a wide selection of eligible cities for economy award bookings, but very few options in premium economy and business class. This month there are more premium economy options than normal, plus both Minneapolis and Mexico City are discounted for business class flights, making one way flights between those two cities and Europe only 45,000 miles.

You’ll likely be hard-pressed to find award availability out of Minneapolis, but when running some searches out of Mexico City last night, I was finding lots of availability.  If you can easily/cheaply position to Mexico City, that could be a worthwhile option for crossing the Atlantic.

Bear in mind that the Flying Blue program will be devaluing on September 8, so in an ideal world you’d book flights by September 7 at the latest, after which time the prices listed above will increase for non-light redemptions.

To give yourself the best view of overall availability when running award searches, leave the date field blank. The search results view will be a calendar displaying month-by-month pricing, making it far easier to pick lower-priced dates provided you have some semblance of flexibility with your travel dates.

An 8% statement credit isn’t a huge return, but it’s a decent enough offer considering there’s no minimum spend requirement and so it’s valid on cheap activities too.

With a limit of $10 total cashback, you’ll max this out when spending $125 across one or two transactions. If you’ll be booking a more expensive activity for two or more people and you have the offer on more than one credit card, you could book the tickets separately in order to take advantage of multiple statement credits.

Seeing as this is a card-linked spending offer, it’ll stack nicely with shopping portal rewards. Viator and TripAdvisor Experiences are often available at high portal rates, especially through Capital One Shopping where you can often get targeted for rates of 20%-35% back.

The eligible new properties were previously bookable for three months ahead of time. Since March 2026 though, IHG has extended the booking window, allowing you to make reservations for the new locations up to six months in advance.

With it being the start of a new month, there’s a new list of new IHG hotels that can be booked with points for a reduced amount.

A lot of the new IHG hotels—particularly in the US—aren’t very inspiring seeing as many are for brands like Garner, Candlewood Suites, Holiday Inn Express, etc. However, I find it’s always worth perusing the new lists because there are sometimes hotels that could be of interest.

This latest batch bookable through February 28 is less inspired than some recent months, but there are a few properties worth highlighting. Kanab, UT gets a new Holiday Inn Express; Kanab is near both Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks, so it can be a good spot to base yourself if you want to visit both parks during the same trip.

There are new voco properties in Budapest, Hungary and Guadalajara, Mexico. Hainan, China gets a new Vignette Collection hotel, while there are new Hotel Indigo, Crowne Plaza, and ANA Crowne Plaza properties dotted around.

There are lots of other new hotels, so it’s worth checking the list to see if any can save you points on upcoming stays.

The terms state that this offer is for the recipient of the banner, so hopefully it’s a widely targeted offer.

One of the best parts of this discount is that it stacks with any other eligible Citi Travel credits you might have. For example, my wife has this offer on her Citi Strata Premier℠ card; one of that card’s benefits is a $100 discount when spending $500+ on a hotel booking made through Citi Travel. When booking a $500+ hotel stay, both that $100 discount and the $75 discount from this limited time promotion are deducted from the total cost. Seeing as the offer is available on her Strata Premier card, she’d also earn 10X ThankYou points on the balance.

The same is true of the Citi Strata Elite℠ card. That card has a $300 hotel credit each calendar year on a stay of two nights or more when booking through Citi Travel. Booking a stay of two nights or more costing $400+ would get you a $300 discount from the Strata Elite card as well as the $75 discount from this new promotion (assuming your Strata Elite card is targeted).

Note that even though you have to book your stay by September 30, 2026, the stay doesn’t have to actually be completed by then—it can be for any hotel stay through the end of the booking calendar.

Homs & Villas promotions tend to have specific requirements and this one is no exception. After registering, you have to book by September 30 for stays through December 15. Stays have to be for a minimum of two nights and cost a minimum of $1,750 as the base rate (i.e. before taxes, cleaning fees, etc.)

There’s a separate promotion that’s awarding 2,000 bonus points per night, capped at 10,000 bonus points, when booking a stay of two or more nights that costs $1,500 or more, so that should stack with this new promo. There’s also a Homes & Villas Amex Offer that’s giving $350 back on $1,000 spend, plus you can click through from a shopping portal to earn more rewards.

Quick Thoughts

Getting $100 back on only $300 spend is a very good return. It’s valid on what appears to be the majority of SLH properties worldwide. You can find the full list of eligible properties here; there’s wide coverage of hotels in the Americas, Europe, and Asia, along with a handful of hotels in Africa, but check the list to ensure that any SLH properties you’re planning on visiting are included.

If you book your SLH stay through Hilton, make sure that you’re picking a rate where you pay at the hotel because if you book a prepaid rate, I believe payment will be taken by Hilton and won’t show up as an SLH purchase, thus resulting in no $100 statement credit.

If you’re booking an award stay at an SLH location using Hilton points, you’ll still be able to utilize this Amex Offer if you have $300 or more of charges to your room for things like meals, parking, pet fees, spa treatments, etc.

If you have this Amex Offer on more than one household card and your stay costs $600 or more, you can ask the hotel to split the cost of the payment across two or more cards in order to get multiple $100 statement credits.

Unlike Amex, Chase allows you to redeem offers on multiple cards, so you could theoretically get 10% off on several rides by switching payments cards after each one if you’re targeted for this offer on two or more cards.

Membership Rewards points usually transfer to Hilton on a 1,000:2,000 basis. That means that this new 30% transfer bonus increases that ratio to 1,000:2,600.

It’s been precisely two years since Amex last launched a 30% bonus to Hilton. Back then, our Reasonable Redemption Value for Hilton Honors points was something like 0.45-0.5 cents per point, but that value has dropped a couple of times since then to only 0.35 cents per point. That means that unless you’re getting outsized value, you’d be getting less than 1 cent per point of value from your Membership Rewards points if transferring to Hilton during this transfer bonus which is poor.

Quick Thoughts

The double points offer is straightforward enough. You have to register for the promo first, then it’s valid on all stays worldwide through the end of 2026.

The $31 bonus card offer has a few more important nuances. For starters, you have to register for the promo, then book your stay(s) by September 7, with stay dates being valid through the end of 2026. You’ll receive one $31 bonus card per stay rather than per night, with the total value of bonus cards being capped at $124 (i.e. it’s capped at four stays during the promo period). Best Western is referring to them as gift cards, but I always refer to them as bonus cards because gift cards aren’t supposed to expire, whereas these bonus cards will expire on March 1, 2027. The bonus card promo is also only valid on stays in the US, Canada, and the Caribbean.

The terms for both offers state that the “Promotion is not valid with any other offer, promotion, or discount.” That suggests that you won’t be able to stack the two promos, but my understanding is that it’s always been possible to stack Best Western promos such as these in the past, so hopefully nothing’s changed. Do note though that you’ll only be able to stack them for stays in the US, Canada, and the Caribbean; if your Best Western stay(s) will be taking place elsewhere in the world, you’ll only be eligible for the double points promo.

There are a couple of additional ways to save money on your stay(s). Through September 2, Best Western is offering $20 bonus cards when buying $100 gift cards. The $20 bonus cards are valid through February 28, 2027, so you’d be able to pay for your stay(s) with those.

There’s also a Best Western and SureStay Amex Offer that’s giving $50 back when spending $250+ at properties in the US and Canada.

Don’t forget to click through from a shopping portal in order to earn rewards that way as well.

Capital One miles normally transfer to Japan Airlines on a 1,000:750 basis. This transfer bonus therefore increases that ratio to almost parity at 1,000:975. While it’s a shame that the normal ratio isn’t 1,000:1,000 as the bonus would make that 1,000:1,300, it is still possible to get good value from an almost 1:1 transfer ratio.

The Deal

Quick Thoughts

If you’re not familiar with how IHG Points + Cash bookings work, you redeem a certain number of points, plus you pay a cash co-pay for the rest of the cost. That cash co-pay is, in effect, buying the additional points needed to book the room. As a result, if you subsequently cancel the stay you’ll get the refund entirely in points, rather than a refund of both the points and cash.

Ordinarily, this can be a good way to buy points at a discount, with the cost per point only being slightly more than during points sales when IHG offers a 100% bonus when buying points. The cash and points portions can vary slightly from property to property, plus the different thresholds in pricing for any given room offer different values.

For example, take this Candlewood Suites hotel. You can redeem 33K points for a standard award stay, or anything ranging from 8K-29K points plus a cash co-pay ranging from $127 down to $28. As you can see, if you’re targeted for this Points + Cash promotion, you’ll see the regular cash price struck through, with the discounted amount displayed beneath.

Those different thresholds buy IHG points at different prices. At the high end, booking the 29K points + $28 rate means you’re buying 4K points for $28 which is a 0.7 cents per point rate. At the other end of the spectrum, booking the 8K + $127 rate means you’re buying 25K points for $127 which is a 0.51 cents per point rate.

That’s better than normal Points + Cash pricing, but it’s still ever-so-slightly more expensive than the current 100% points sale which means you can buy the points for 0.5 cents per point.

Bilt has announced its Rent Day promos for September 1st, headlined by a 25%-100% bonus on points transfers to Virgin Atlantic. The bonus size depends on Bilt status, with Blue members starting at 25% and Platinum members topping out at 100% with a $200 Bilt Cash buy-up.

In addition to the transfer bonus, Bilt cardholders will once again have the opportunity to earn 2x points on credit card purchases on Rent Day (up to 1,000 bonus points).

The Deal

• On September 1st, Bilt Rewards Members will be eligible for a 25-100% transfer bonus, depending on their Bilt status:
  • Blue members – 25% bonus
  • Silver members – 35% bonus
  • Gold members – 45% bonus

Quick Thoughts

I’m never one to look a transfer bonus in the mouth, but it’s worth keeping in mind that, for the vast majority of Bilt members, these percentages aren’t terribly noteworthy. We see yearly 40% transfer bonuses to Virgin from Amex and Chase, and 30% bonuses come along every couple of months.

Rent Day transfer bonuses have understandably moderated over the last year, and this year’s top-level airline bonuses have been capped at 100%-125%, with the top level only attainable for Platinum members using a Bilt Cash supplement.

In contrast, the amount of Bilt Cash required for a tier upgrade has been on the way up. It started at $75 early in the year, then went to $125 or $135, then $150. Now it’s $200, the same price as a point accelerator. That might be worth it to go from 75%-100% or 45%-75%, but I wouldn’t use it for the 10% uplift offered to Blue and Silver members unless you’re desperate for Virgin Points.

A couple of years ago, Bilt offered up to a 150% transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic, starting at 75% for basic Blue members. That was a good time to transfer speculatively; I’d have a hard time doing it this time around, given the numerous bonuses that we see from other currencies throughout the year.

If you do transfer to Virgin Atlantic, you can book economy saver awards between the US and UK from 6K Virgin points (albeit with a hefty amount in taxes/fees as well), while one-way premium economy awards between the US and UK are available starting at 10,500 points. If you’re more interested in booking business class tickets, select dates and routes can be as low as 29K, plus ~$700 in taxes and fees.

This transfer bonus could also come in handy for other Virgin redemptions like cruises with Virgin Voyages or this all-inclusive stay at Finch Hattons in Kenya. You can also book three nights at Necker Island for two people for 750K Virgin points, with each additional night costing 250K points.
