Quick Thoughts

Keep in mind that American Express uses lifetime language on their bonus offers, whereby you may not be eligible for the new card member offer on a particular card if you have or have had that card before. If you’ve never had a Business Platinum card before, you would be better off looking for a new card member offer, which tends to be stronger (or at least for an increased number of potential points) on this card. However, if you don’t expect to be eligible for a new card member bonus or you simply don’t want to open a new account for one reason or another, the upgrade offer here could be really good. It’s effectively earning 12X everywhere, not including the regular rewards you earn for purchases with the card.

In my household, we’ve been able to get several Business Platinum Cards in recent years with new card member offers, including offers that were specifically targeted to us to open an additional Business Platinum Card. We see no-lifetime-language offers like those pop up from time to time. Again, it might be worth going after one of those bonuses instead of an upgrade bonus, depending on your situation.

Still, I can certainly see the appeal here for some, given the reduced spending requirement versus what is traditionally required on the Business Platinum for a new card member. While you’ll be on the hook for the annual fee and you’ll need to keep the card open for at least a year after upgrading, it could certainly be worth it. The value of the points earned here certainly exceeds the cost of the annual fee before accounting for any of the card’s various coupon credits.

Quick Thoughts

When I first saw news about American Express adding this benefit, I wondered what benefit might be offered by the paid version of ChatGPT. Wanting to get an unbiased response to that, I asked Google Gemini.

For context, ChatGPT Plus is the consumer paid version, which costs $20 per month (note that I do not believe this benefit will cover the consumer version of ChatGPT, I’m simply outlining the details here for context). Business ChatGPT requires paying for two users and can be paid monthly for $25 a month per user or annually for what works out to $20 a month per user.

According to Google Gemini, ChatGPT Plus (again, not covered by this credit to my knowledge) adds:

• Access to advanced models that are supposedly more accurate, better at complex reasoning, nuance, and following multi-step instructions.
• There are higher usage caps and priority access during peak times so that the service won’t slow down.
• Chat GPT Plus also adds some advanced features for data analysis and creating custom AI bots for certain tasks. Google Gemini tells me that you can create your own travel point strategist custom GPT-AI bot. No word on the accuracy of said bot.

ChatGPT Business (which qualifies for this new benefit) adds:

• Enhanced security and data privacy: the business version of ChatGPT does not allow training on your data. In other words, OpenAI does not train its models on your data, so there should be no risk of your data leaking into the public versions of ChatGPT. For instance, if you’re using ChatGPT Business to create some sort of custom code and you’re using the public version, there’s always the chance that the information you’re providing will inadvertently end up in the public version of ChatGPT. Whereas the business version supposedly eliminates that risk.
• Higher usage limits with higher speed performance without throttling.
• A longer context window that allows it to remember longer strings of information
• Some collaborative and administrative features that would be useful in a business environment

Whether this benefit is valuable to you really comes down to your use case for AI. If you’re just looking for a chatbot, it might not be of high interest. On the other hand, I know that AI can really enhance productivity in some situations, provided you understand and account for its limitations.

A nice thing here is that the credit could cover a subscription entirely for at least half a year.

If you subscribe to the Business version of ChatGPT, which has a minimum of two users, and you choose to be billed monthly, your $300 credit will cover exactly six months of Business ChatGPT for two users. If you have two qualifying cards or you buy Business ChatGPT in conjunction with someone else who has a qualifying card, you could rotate out which card you use to pay for the subscription and maintain what is effectively a free subscription to ChatGPT Business. According to Doctor of Credit, some readers get hit with sales tax, but it varies by state.

The nice thing here is that this is a $300 per calendar year benefit that can be used as you see fit, rather than being a specific monthly amount. If you have a larger team, you could cover just a couple of months to test this out. Or if you wait until July to subscribe, you could get 12 continuous months of the subscription by triggering $300 in statement credits between July and December and another $300 in the new calendar year. That could be plenty of time to test this out and decide if it’s a useful tool for your use case.

Since we have multiple qualifying cards in my household, I’m probably going to give this a shot and see if I can find ways to make use of it. I think this has the potential to be more broadly useful than the previous Dell credits were in the past, so I’m glad to see this type of credit added to the card, even if it won’t be a fit for everyone.

Quick Thoughts

Although SAS increased some award prices late last year, some of them are still very reasonably priced. For example, one of its sweet spots is 60K miles for business class between the US and Europe. Availability isn’t always easy to find, but it’s a great deal for a perfectly nice business class experience.

With this award sale, that means you’re looking at redeeming only 45K miles each way which is superb. Even better is the fact that award flights for children ages 2-11 only cost half the amount, so they’d only cost 22.5K miles in business class which is unheard of in other programs.

Since the demise of Mesa, the only transferable points currency with access to SAS is Rove. If you have a good stash of Rove Miles, this could turn out to be a very good redemption option. Just be sure to verify award availability before transferring miles to SAS.

Quick Thoughts

Choice is marketing this as you earning a $50 gas gift card after two stays, but the gas gift card redemption is optional. Instead, you’ll earn 8,000 points after the two stays, with the choice as to whether or not you want to redeem for a $50 gift card which is a reduced redemption rate compared to normal.

The terms of the offer state that you’ll earn 8,000 bonus points, but that’s untrue. Instead, Choice will top up your points earnings to ensure you end up with 8,000 points at the end of your two stays.

For example, let’s say you book two separate stays of one night each, both of which cost $100 per night. You earn 10 base points per dollar, so you’d earn 1,000 points per stay for a total of 2,000 points. Choice would then top up those earnings with an additional 6,000 bonus points.

There does appear to be a notable change with regards how this promotion will run this year based on an omission in the terms. In previous years, Choice guaranteed that you’d earn at least 5,000 bonus points for every two stays, regardless of how many base points you earn. That was helpful on more expensive stays as it ensured you received a good chunk of points regardless. For example, let’s say you booked two stays, each of which cost $400. You’d earn 4,000 base points on the first stay and 4,000 on the second stay for a total of 8,000 points. With past similar promotions, you’d then earn 5,000 bonus points to make that a total of 13,000 points.

However, that minimum 5,000 bonus points wording is absent from the terms of this latest promotion. That might just be an inadvertent omission, but I suspect it’s deliberate. If so, that means that in the above scenario where you earn 8,000 base points or more across your two stays, you’ll earn a grand total of zero bonus points. This promotion therefore gives a weird incentive to spend less with Choice in order to earn more.

Quick Thoughts

The landing page for this promotion states that it’s valid on stays booked by May 19 for stays through December 30, but the terms and conditions on that same page state that it’s only valid on stays through December 17. I’m not sure which of those is correct, so bear that in mind if your stay(s) would fall within the last couple of weeks of the year.

The sale is giving up to 30% off, which means you might see discounts lower than that. Either way, that discount will be on top of the 10% discount that Accor ALL members are eligible for simply for being a member of their loyalty program.

The particularly nice thing about Accor sales is that they also reduce the award pricing. That’s because Accor points are worth €0.02 per point, so every 1,000 points will save you €20 (~$23.50). If the cash cost of your stay gets reduced as a result of this sale, it also reduces the number of points required correspondingly.

Quick Thoughts

If you’re someone who’s planning to use Uber in the next few months for one or two rides costing $40+, this promotion could offer some decent savings. Seeing as the promo code can save you $40 on up to two rides, it might be worth paying a little extra for Comfort Classic or Comfort Extra in order to obtain the promo code.

Be sure to register for the promotion before booking your flight though. There isn’t a link to the actual registration page, but on the Delta Promotions page you should see the following when logged in:

When analyzing award redemption rates at the time, I wasn’t overly impressed as the cost when booking with IHG One Rewards points seemed high versus the cash rate. That value might be a little better now courtesy of a targeted award sale that’s giving a 20% discount when booking Iberostar award stays.

Quick Thoughts

I’ve had a hard time ascertaining how much value can be had here. I did an initial search for an Iberostar property—Iberostar Waves Cristina—in Mallorca for August 12-16 while not logged in to my account. The pricing for a Garden-View Double for the al-inclusive package came to a total of 448,000 points. Here’s the breakdown of the nightly rate:

I then did a search while logged in to my account and the total pricing for those same nights came to 338,000 points. Now, that might seem like a discount that’s even better than 20% off and it is, but it’s not due to the award sale. I have an IHG One Rewards Premier credit card which gets me every fourth night free on award stays. That original 448K award pricing gets knocked down to 338K when the 110K points for the night of August 15 is removed, but there’s no additional 20% discount from this award sale.

I’m therefore not sure if the 20% discount is only applied to award stays of 1-3 nights. I’ve tried running some other searches, but I can’t get a proper breakdown of pricing when logged in as I don’t have sufficient points for it to display one.

If there is that 1-3 night restriction, that’ll be less useful depending on which properties you’re looking at. That because when running a search for a three night stay in Mallorca, most of the Iberostar properties didn’t return a result as they have a four night minimum stay.

Note that you do need to have been targeted for this promotion and be logged in to your account to have any chance of seeing the discounted pricing. The subject line of the email i received was ‘20% off Reward Nights at Iberostar Beachfront Resorts.’

Quick Thoughts

Depending on the cost of gas wherever you’re renting and the size of the tank for the vehicle you’re renting, this might not even represent a savings for a full tank of gas. However, if you’re renting an SUV or a minivan and you intend to use the entire tank, $49.99 is cheaper than what you’ll pay to fill up in some markets. We were in California last month, and when I refilled the car on the way to the airport, I paid $5.79 a gallon.

That said, I usually avoid prepaying for fuel. It’s ordinarily a pretty bad deal, particularly since you probably already aren’t going to drive around on a perpetually near-empty tank. It can be hard to predict what the fuel level will be when you return the car. I would only consider this in circumstances where I expect to use a substantial portion of the tank and where the time savings of not having to stop and refuel on the way to the airport are meaningful to me.

Still, this is a much better deal compared to the normal cost of getting your car refueled if you fail to do it before going to the airport. At least one time, I recall being in enough of a hurry that I didn’t have time to stop for gas before the airport, and I got hit with a charge of around $85 to refill the tank. That was at a time when gas was significantly less expensive than it is today, so I don’t know what it would be these days. I even once returned a car where I had used almost no fuel at all without refilling on the way back to the airport, and I got hit with a charge for $25 to refill it with what probably amounted to less than a gallon.

Keep in mind that there’s a current Amex offer for $100 back on $500 or more at Sixt locations in the United States. Alternatively, there is a Citi merchant offer for 10% back when you spend $200 or more. Either of those offers should stack with this refueling offer. This prepaid fuel offer might become more relevant for someone who is very close to meeting one of those spending thresholds, since you might end up saving more by adding the prepaid fuel in order to reach the threshold for the Amex offer or City Merchant offer.

Stephen and I received this offer via email as Sixt Platinum members, but according to the press release, this is available for all Sixt ONE members. You should see the opportunity to add prepaid fuel for $49.99 during the booking flow at sixt.com. Don’t forget to go through a shopping portal. Just this morning, I received an offer for 30% back at Sixt via Capital One Shopping. That should stack as well. Given that offer, this might start to look like an even better deal. Depending on how you value the Capital One shopping rewards, 30% back on $49.99 could make for a relatively cheap tank of gas. Again, it really just depends on how confident you are that you’ll be able to return the car relatively empty.

Quick Thoughts

This offer popped up in my Hawaiian Atmos Rewards account right around the time that my annual fee posted to the account. We often see Barclays take this type of approach to target existing cardholders with spending offers that won’t post until well after the window has closed to cancel and avoid paying the annual fee. In other words, if I want to earn this promotion, I’ll have to keep my card account open long enough that it won’t be possible to cancel and avoid the second-year annual fee since the bonus miles won’t post until six to eight weeks after the end of the promotion, which means that I may not see the bonus miles until August. I was intending to keep one of our Hawaiian Airlines cards open anyway, so I’ll activate and earn this offer on one of our accounts.

I know that many readers might have opened a Hawaiian Airlines account or two around this time last year because we had published a post about the ability to earn the bonus on two different Hawaiian consumer cards, which stopped being possible not long thereafter. If you have a Hawaiian Airlines card account that is nearing its anniversary or you have recently noticed the annual fee posted to your account, it’s worth clicking the offers tab in the top right corner while logged in to see if you have a spending offer like this. The 2,500 miles on offer here aren’t of huge value, but it effectively means earning 10 points per dollar on the five $50 purchases, which is probably easy enough for most people to meet.

Quick Thoughts

I’d never even heard of WHOOP until yesterday, when Chase announced the offer. Unlike American Express, whose Oura credit is a yearly card benefit, this appears to be a one-off for Sapphire Reserve cardholders. On the flip side, it covers the full annual cost of the device and membership, unlike Amex.

I’m not a big fan of fitness devices in general, let alone those that charge a subscription fee and don’t store your data locally. Despite that, I’m going to give it a shot for a year just to see.

If you decide to do this, make sure you activate the Chase offer before visiting the site to make your purchase. I haven’t seen the account setup yet, but I assume there’s a way to turn off auto-renew, which you’ll also want to do to avoid an unwanted second-year charge.

Keep in mind that you need to register for this promotion at least 24 hours prior to departure of a qualifying flight, and you must register by May 31st, 2026 in order to take advantage of this offer. I would therefore recommend registering even if you don’t intend to use the promotion. Frontier does not serve my home airport, and I don’t anticipate flying Frontier between now and the end of August, but I’ll register anyway just in case I end up in a situation where I need to book an unexpected Frontier flight. I would rather position myself to earn the extra 5,000 miles than leave them on the table if something comes up.

Hertz has had a rough few years in terms of public image. I know many readers have sworn them off entirely due to the fiasco over customers having been arrested because Hertz failed to properly record the return of their rental cars. There’s also been the installation of the AI damage scanners in many airports in the United States, which has not helped to enhance the Hertz reputation.

However, I’ve personally rented from Hertz plenty of times over the last year, and my experiences have been fine. I’m never notably impressed by their customer service, but sometimes the price is right.

Just this morning, I received a Capital One Shopping targeted email that included an offer for 30% back at Hertz. I believe that the terms of the Capital One Shopping offer now require prepayment of the rental in order to trigger the offer. I’m not positive whether this Citi offer will be triggered with a prepaid rental, but I have a couple of rental car needs during the validity window of this offer, so I may look at trying to stack. As noted at the top, the terms of this offer actually explicitly say that it cannot be stacked with other offers. I have a hard time believing that it couldn’t be stacked with a shopping portal return, but I guess we’ll see what happens in practice.

Do keep in mind that it is only valid at corporate-owned locations in the United States. I actually have a couple of overseas Hertz rentals lined up later this summer, but this offer wouldn’t work for those rentals as per the terms.

Quick Thoughts

Either of these auctions could be of great interest depending on how high the bidding extends. At the time of writing, these experiences are around 110K-115K World of Hyatt points. I’m sure they will end up being significantly higher.

I could certainly see that being worth a couple/few hundred thousand Hyatt points for many enthusiasts.

A large chunk of the value of the second package is tied up in the $5,000 shopping spree. How much that shopping spree is worth probably depends a lot on the restrictions and use cases for it. I’m sure it could end up being a good deal, but it’s a little bit harder to quantify.

It certainly could be worth setting a reminder to check out the auctions close to the ending times if you’re flush with Hyatt points and find either of these packages of high interest.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any American Express cards that earn cash back in my household, so I can’t see the details. However, between the details reported by Award Wallet and past experience with similar deals, we can make some educated guesses. The bottom line is that if you have an American Express card that earns cash back rewards, it’s worth clicking through to see if you can score a discount on Amazon purchases.

With all of these deals to use rewards to make purchases on Amazon, the best deal is always to use as few rewards as possible in order to trigger the discount. You don’t want to cover your entire purchase with rewards because you’ll typically get very poor value for your rewards. However, it can absolutely make sense to use enough rewards to trigger a big discount.

Quick Thoughts

Based on how I read the terms, you only need to leave the money in the bank for about 35 days to get the bonus. This is because you have to deposit within 30 days and leave it for 60 days…both dated from enrollment. So, you could transfer the money in at day 25 or so and then transfer it back out at day 61 and still meet the terms. It’s also worth noting that sole proprietorships under an individual’s SSN are eligible.

The $500/$2000 bonus effectively gives you 25% back for parking your $2k with Chase for ~30 days. That’s a heckuva deal.

The nice thing about this set of offers is that it’s about as easy as a bank account bonus can be: no direct deposit requirement, only 5 transactions on the debit card to make it work, and you can stay fee-free by leaving the $2k in the account or by spending $2k/month on an associated Ink Card…AND you can sign up online.

Quick Thoughts

This is a fairly easy bonus to earn on a checking account, especially given the $400 upside. While the terms require two direct deposits of $500 or more and state that ACH transfers will not count, data points show that the direct deposit requirements can be easy to meet through a variety of activities.

Nick has had a Capital One 360 account for many years and has frequently used it to meet direct deposit requirements at other banks, as ACH pushes from his 360 Checking account almost always trigger those requirements. The 360 Checking account has no fees or account minimums, so it has been very easy to keep the account open over the years.

There’s no early termination fee if you meet the promo terms, earn the bonus, and then decide you no longer want to keep the account. On the flip side, if you have or had an open 360 Checking, Simply Checking, or Total Control Checking account as a primary or secondary account holder with Capital One on or after January 1, 2024, you will be ineligible for the bonus.

Overall, this bonus looks like easy money. We like checking account bonuses with low requirements and often look at them in terms of the total being doubled if you’re in 2-player mode.

Quick Thoughts

Based on the terms, you only have to leave $2.5K or $25K in the bank for ~31 days to get the bonus. This is because you have to deposit $25 initially, then add the remainder within 30 days of account opening. Then, you have to maintain that balance for 60 days after account opening.

It’s important to note that the net upside is a bit lower than $400 or $825. There are plenty of ways to get ~4% interest right now with savings accounts, CDs, and T-bills, so you’re effectively losing 31 days of interest on the money that you put in. Given that, the opportunity cost is ~$100 for the $25K option (or ~$10 for the $2.5K), making the incremental gain closer to $725 than $825.

That said, the larger bonus still corresponds to a ~40% annual interest rate, an incredible return. At the same time, there’s a minimum time commitment and more flexibility with your money. The smaller version is simply a no-brainer if you have $2,500 that you can free up for a month.

Wells Fargo periodically runs a very similar promotion on its personal Way2Save accounts, but the bonus is only $525 for a $25K deposit requirement, AND you have to keep the money in the account for 61 days instead of 31. This business checking offer is vastly superior.

Do note that there is a $15 monthly fee, which can be waived only with a $500 minimum daily balance (or a $1K average ledger balance). That’s obviously not an issue when you have the required amount in the account, but remember to factor it into the deposit or add $500 initially to avoid the fee being deducted in the first month.
