Quick Thoughts

In case you’re not familiar with Global Getaways, it’s a feature that Alaska Airlines launched a couple of years ago under its old Mileage Plan loyalty program (now Atmos Rewards). Every quarter, six destinations worldwide become bookable for a discounted number of points compared to the normal rate. Notably, the discount applies to award bookings on partner airlines, not only to flights on Alaska Airlines metal.

This month’s deals are decent, especially when factoring in the cash cost of many flights right now. For example, flying to Europe from 20,000 points is a great deal, as is Seoul for 20k. Hawaii at 11,500 is also a great deal, especially from the Midwest and East Coast, but keep in mind that Atmos does sometimes offer flights from the West Coast for as low as 7,500 points each way, albeit with a much narrower booking window.

Remember, you earn Status Points towards Atmos elite status on award bookings, and these reduced Global Getaways fares are no exception.

Quick Thoughts

Marriott Gold isn’t the most inspiring elite status; things don’t really start getting good until you reach Platinum, the next rung up. Unfortunately, this offer doesn’t give you any sort of fast track past Gold, so you’re still starting from square one to get to the 50 required elite nights for Platinum.

That said, if you have Marriott stays coming up, you might as well register for the offer; it’s better than nothing, especially since you can extend it through all of next year with only three stays. That said, I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to arrange stays in order to fulfill it.

The eligible new properties were previously bookable for three months ahead of time. Since March 2026 though, IHG has extended the booking window, allowing you to make reservations for the new locations up to six months in advance.

With it being the start of a new month, there’s a new list of new IHG hotels that can be booked with points for a reduced amount.

Quick Thoughts

A lot of the new IHG hotels—particularly in the US—aren’t very inspiring seeing as many are for brands like Garner, Candlewood Suites, Holiday Inn Express, etc. However, I find it’s always worth perusing the new lists because there are sometimes hotels that could be of interest.

For example, in the US there’s an Atwell Suites—one of IHG’s new brands—in Panama City Beach. This could prove to be decent value for your points. When checking October 6-9, the average points requirement with the 15% discount is 16,716 points per night. By comparison, the cash rate with the same cancellation policy is an average of $136.77 per night including tax. That means you’d be getting 0.82 cents per point of value which is almost 50% more than our Reasonable Redemption Value for IHG points, plus you can buy IHG points for only 0.5 cents per point at the moment.

Elsewhere in Florida, there’s the Holiday Inn Resort Orlando Suites – Waterpark which has one and two bedroom suites bookable with points. The two bedroom suites can accommodate up to six people, so that could be particularly useful for a larger family. When checking the award pricing for October 6-9, the one bedroom suites are bookable for only 12,750 points per night, while the two bedroom suites are available for 15,300 or 16,150 points per night, depending on which suite type you pick (there are a few).

There are a couple of caveats though. One is that IHG charges resort fees on award stays and this property’s resort fee appears to be $45 per night. I didn’t get charged a resort fee on an award stay at a Staybridge Suites in Orlando a couple of years ago, but there’s no guarantee this Holiday Inn Resort will take that same policy. The other caveat is that this hotel doesn’t have great reviews on IHG’s website, so it’d be worth looking into those reviews ahead of booking a stay.

In China there are three new voco properties, in Europe there are quite a few new (to IHG) Ruby hotels, the UK gets a couple of new voco hotels, and there’s a new voco in Darwin, Australia too.

There are lots of other new hotels, so it’s worth checking the list to see if any can save you points on upcoming stays.

Several years ago, I did a little bit of research into Delta Vacations and found that there was definitely some good value that could sometimes be gained when booking your flight and another trip element through the site.

Getting $200 back on a $1,000+ purchase could make that even better value, not to mention the fact that you can save up to $300 when using promo code SMMED300. That code is valid through April 30, 2026 and is valid for travel through September 30, 2026. The size of the discount depends on the size of your flight + hotels Delta Vacations package:

There isn’t too much to get excited about with this transfer bonus. That’s because our Reasonable Redemption Value for Hilton points is now only 0.35 cents per point. That means that if you were to redeem Hilton points for that value on an award stay, you’d effectively only be getting 0.84 cents per point of value from your Membership Rewards points—pretty bad.

It is possible to get better value than that, especially if you can take advantage of Hilton’s 5th night free benefit on award stays for those with Silver status or higher. If you were able to get 0.6 cents per point of value, this transfer bonus would mean you’d be getting an effective 1.44 cents per point of value from your Membership Rewards which is much better, but still far from being a no-brainer.

18,750 miles for economy is the standard Promo Rewards pricing (as it’s a 25% discount on 25,000 mile awards) and there’s another decent selection of eligible cities this month, although the list isn’t quite as extensive this month as has quite often been the case in recent months.

If you can find premium economy award availability out of Los Angeles or Chicago, 30,000 miles one way isn’t bad.

Best of all is the ability to book one way business class flights between New York and Europe for only 45,000 miles. Availability for those flights can be extremely hard to come by depending on where you’ll be flying to/from in Europe, but New York to Newcastle in the north of England has excellent availability. See this post for more about that, but here’s a quick look at availability in August; as you can see, there’s availability in a few other months this year as well. There’s a ton of availability in the first few months of 2027 too, but that’s priced at 60,000 miles because these Flying Blue Promo Rewards are only valid on flights through December 31, 2026.

As a reminder, to see the monthly view of award availability as shown in the screenshot above, leave the date field empty when running your initial search.

Be aware that Flying Blue charges a relatively high amount in taxes and fees, so you’ll want to bear that in mind when assessing the overall value of these awards versus awards on other carriers and/or paid tickets.

The better of the two is a 30% bonus when transferring Membership Rewards points to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.

The Deal

You can book economy saver awards between the US and UK from 6K Virgin points (albeit with a decent amount in taxes/fees as well). With this 30% transfer bonus, you’d only need to transfer 5K Membership Rewards points for every person; that would then give you a few Virgin points left over for future redemptions.

One way premium economy awards between the US and UK are available from 10,500 points. That means that if you already have 100 Virgin points in your account, you’d only need to transfer 8K Membership Rewards points in order to have enough points to book a ticket. If you’re more interested in booking Upper Class (i.e. business class) tickets, those can be available on select dates and routes for only 35K points one way (with very high taxes and fees to go along with it). That would only require 27K Amex Membership Rewards transferred with this 30% bonus.

This transfer bonus could also come in handy for other Virgin redemptions like cruises with Virgin Voyages or this all-inclusive stay at Finch Hattons in Kenya. That latter redemption costs 100K points per night with a minimum two night stay, with that covering the cost of two people. You’d therefore only need to redeem 77K Membership Rewards points per night when transferring them from American Express.

You can also book three nights at Necker Island for two people for 750K Virgin points, with each additional night costing 250K points. That would “only” require 577K Amex points to be transferred which is, admittedly, a lot, but it could be a worthwhile bucket list redemption for some people who are flush with Membership Rewards points and who’d rather not transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards that are also offering a 30% transfer bonus right now.

Capital One normally transfers to EVA Air on a 1,000:750 basis, so with this 30% bonus that ratio improves to 1,000:975.

A transfer bonus that still doesn’t quite make the transfer ratio 1:1 might not sound as appealing as some others, but there is value to be had here. Here’s EVA’s award chart for travel between the US and Asia:

Now, redeeming 50K or 55K for a one way flight in economy isn’t great, but 75K or 80K for business class is a solid enough redemption, especially seeing as EVA Air provides better business class award availability for its Infinity MileageLands members than it does its partner airlines. You’d need to transfer 77K Capital One miles in order to get 75K with the 30% transfer bonus, while for the 80K tier you’d need to transfer 82,100 miles (Capital One lets you transfer in 100 increments after the first 1K miles transferred; thanks to Grant in the comments for the reminder about that).

Booking award flights directly with EVA isn’t always the most straightforward, so it’s definitely worth checking out Tim’s helpful guide for booking award flights with them. It can certainly be worth the effort as EVA Air’s business class product is superb. My wife and I had a chance to experience it almost 10 years ago and it’s still one of my favorite business class experiences. Tim has a more recent business class review here for his flight from Seattle to Taipei last year.

Frontier certainly isn’t the most glamorous of transfer partners to add, but it’s still great that Rove is continuing to add new transfer partners that could be useful to members. It’s also particularly interesting that Frontier has partnered with Rove because they’re not otherwise a transfer partner of any major transferable points currency (you can transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to Frontier).

Frontier miles don’t have a set value, but we’ve pegged their Reasonable Redemption Value at 1 cent per point. That being the case, a 25% transfer bonus would mean you could reasonably expect to get 1.25 cents per point of value for every one Rove Mile you transfer. That’s not awful, but with Rove having an interesting selection of unique and valuable partners, I’d personally not choose to transfer to Frontier as it’ll be hard to get outsized value on award flights with them, even if you do manage to book award flights for more than 1 cent per point when using Frontier miles.

This is quite the list of countries in which you can earn rewards on Uber rides and, in the case of Canada, Uber Eats orders too.

I’d originally planned on writing a post about how you can earn Avios with British Airways or Aer Lingus while in the UK, but figured it’d be worth checking if Uber had additional partnerships in other countries as I vaguely remembered seeing that there was some kind of partnership in Canada.

As it turns out, that memory was correct as you can earn Air Canada Aeroplan points on rides and Uber Eats orders north of the border. I was surprised though to subsequently discover the additional partnerships with Flying Blue, Asia Miles, and Qantas.

None of these partnerships are going to be huge earners unless you spend a lot of money on Uber rides in these countries, but free miles are free miles. Linking your accounts is easy; the links in the offer details above give more details. I don’t think this is something you can do before arrival in the other countries though. Once you have arrived in the UK, France, etc. though, open the Uber app and go to Account > Settings. If you scroll down, you should see a ‘Rewards’ section. For example, here’s what it looks like for me in the UK:

Note that Marriott Bonvoy is listed there because that’s my earning preference for rides and Uber Eats orders in the US. Here in the UK though, I’ll earn British Airways Avios any time I take an eligible Uber ride.

When Rakuten first started offering rewards for the Freedom Unlimited card a year or two ago, the bonus from Rakuten was $150. This latest offer isn’t as good, but $90 cashback or 9,000 Bilt points is as good as it’s been recently, but only if you’re a new Chase customer.

Note that this bonus is in addition to the current welcome offer on the Freedom Unlimited card, so you can get rewarded twice.

If you’re looking to apply for this card and someone else in your household already has a Chase Freedom® (no longer open to new applications), Chase Freedom Unlimited®, or Chase Freedom Flex® card, you can have them refer you to the Freedom Unlimited card and they’ll earn 5,000 bonus Ultimate Rewards points. Quick Thoughts

If you’re not familiar with how IHG Points + Cash bookings work, you redeem a certain number of points, plus you pay a cash co-pay for the rest of the cost. That cash co-pay is, in effect, buying the additional points needed to book the room. As a result, if you subsequently cancel the stay you’ll get the refund entirely in points, rather than a refund of both the points and cash.

Ordinarily, this can be a good way to buy points at a discount, with the cost per point only being slightly more than during points sales when IHG offers a 100% bonus when buying points. The cash and points portions can vary slightly from property to property, plus the different thresholds in pricing for any given room offer different values.

For example, take this Candlewood Suites hotel. You can redeem 33K points for a standard award stay, or anything ranging from 8K-29K points plus a cash co-pay ranging from $127 down to $28. As you can see, if you’re targeted for this Points + Cash promotion, you’ll see the regular cash price struck through, with the discounted amount displayed beneath.

Those different thresholds buy IHG points at different prices. At the high end, booking the 29K points + $28 rate means you’re buying 4K points for $28 which is a 0.7 cents per point rate. At the other end of the spectrum, booking the 8K + $127 rate means you’re buying 25K points for $127 which is a 0.51 cents per point rate.

That’s better than normal Points + Cash pricing, but it’s still ever-so-slightly more expensive than the current 100% points sale which means you can buy the points for 0.5 cents per point.

That said, the 100% points sale expires on July 16, whereas this 15% Points + Cash sale is valid for bookings made by July 27 for stays through August 10. That gives an 11 day window after the 100% points sale ends where this Points + Cash promo will presumably be a better deal (unless IHG launches a new points sale straight after).

Something that might make this Points + Cash discount promo even better is if it stacks with the also-targeted IHG Chase Offer. I don’t think IHG Amex Offers get triggered by Points + Cash bookings, but perhaps Chase Offers do. Please let us know in the comments if you’ve had success with that in the past.

Quick Thoughts

As noted at the top, I currently see a promotional rate of $1 per week for 1 year of New York Times All Access. That means a year should cost you $52 if you’re eligible for that introductory promotional rate. That’s a pretty good bonus to get on top of the cost of the $500 gift card if you value a subscription to the New York Times and you fly Delta.

If you’re not eligible for a promotional rate, perhaps because you’ve had one before, then this deal would become significantly more appealing. I imagine that quite a few readers have a household Platinum card that has a digital entertainment credit that can be used for the New York Times. If you don’t and/or if you use your digital entertainment credit for other things, and you also fly Delta, this seems like a pretty good deal.

One particularly awesome aspect of this deal is that your subscription will not automatically renew, so you don’t need to worry about forgetting to cancel and being charged for a renewal.

We have extensively covered the Paze promotion, whereby many credit cards from most of the major U.S. banks are eligible to earn a $10 statement credit after checking out via Paze and spending $10 or more. Paze is a digital wallet similar to PayPal that was developed by Early Warning Services, the same company behind Zelle. They partner with most of the major banks in the United States, so a lot of the cards in your wallet are probably eligible to earn $10 back after you spend $10 or more, up to $100 back on each card.

The catch has been that a relatively small number of merchants accept Paze as a payment method. Newegg was of wide interest at the beginning since they sell many third-party merchant gift cards. Unfortunately, they stopped accepting Paze for those gift card purchases. Many other opportunities since then have dried up.

If you find yourself with a stack of cards that still have the opportunity to earn these Paze statement credits, this could be a cool way to do some good that won’t cost you more than the time to make a few clicks. Even if you wouldn’t ordinarily donate to St. Jude’s for one reason or another, this is effectively an opportunity to donate with someone else’s money, assuming that you are eligible for the statement credits.

In my household, we’ve received the Paze statement credits on cards from Capital One and Bank of America. We have yet to see the credits on my wife’s Chase cards, but I expect that we eventually will. Many Wells Fargo and US Bank cards are also eligible.

Keep in mind the low cap here, as you can only use up to $10 worth of points per day. You should be able to apply your points within the Kroger app for a discount on your groceries. If you go to the grocery store regularly, then this could make it possible to use far more points to get real-world discounts.

Keep in mind that Kroger points expire at the end of the month following the month in which they are earned, so it isn’t uncommon for people to realize that they will have points expiring unused. Obviously, using your points for a discount on fuel can be a far better deal, but for those who wouldn’t end up using all of them that way, this is a great option to have.

You can book hotels through Airbnb (and sometimes earn Airbnb credit for doing so)

I had missed the old news that Airbnb now offers booking for some hotels within their app, and it’s not just independent hotels. You can specifically filter search results to hotels.

A reader in our Frequent Miler Insiders Facebook group reported an opportunity to book the Sonesta Denver downtown for two nights for $388, and Airbnb was offering $58 in Airbnb credit for that booking. On a different date, I found the same Sonesta property for a single night for $159 with $23 in Airbnb credit (as shown in the screenshot at the top).

That Sonesta wasn’t the only hotel available with Airbnb credit. I also found that the Rally Hotel at McGregor Square is offering $32 in Airbnb credit on a one-night booking for $248.

Some hotels that can be booked in the Airbnb app are semi-opaque. For instance, one result shows a bold headline of “Hotel in Denver”, with the hotel name unbolded below that.

In other cases, I don’t see a hotel name at all, like the description here of a luxury hotel without a name (though I’d bet you could run a Google reverse image search to find the exact property).

I wouldn’t have thought to go to the Airbnb app to book a hotel room. In the right situation, this could obviously make a lot of sense if you value Airbnb credit, but you plan to book a hotel.

It appears that only hotels marked as featured hotels have the offer to earn Airbnb credit. I did not see a filter or a way to filter to only featured hotels. Still, I’m glad to know that this opportunity exists.

Quick Thoughts

Getting 20% off for event tickets certainly might be of interest to some readers. This deal might also be of interest if you have a card with a StubHub statement credit benefit. Purchasing a gift card from DoorDash will not trigger that statement credit benefit, but perhaps you’re looking to buy tickets to something that costs a little bit more than the semi-annual $150 statement credit. In that case, it might help to get a discount on your overage here. I can confirm that it is possible to use a gift card and a credit card on a single purchase at StubHub, though I believe that the system will apply the entire gift card amount and only charge the remainder to your credit card. You might need to do a little math to make sure you buy a StubHub gift card that fits your needs appropriately.

The limit is nine per customer per day in-store, although some stores may allow more. Different stores appear to have different policies regarding the variable-load cards that some Staples now sell. Some folks report that fees are waived when they purchase them…others find that they aren’t. Your mileage may vary.
