The National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) has published the content scope for the NextGen bar exam—set to launch in 2026—marking the latest milestone in the development of the new exam.

The recommendations were originally issued by the NCBE’s Testing Task Force as part of a multiyear study of the current bar exam, which began in 2018, and included asking nearly 15,000 practicing lawyers and stakeholders from bar admission agencies and the legal academy what people like and don’t like about the current exam and identifying the knowledge and skills that are necessary for effective practice by newly licensed attorneys.
