The Maine Supreme Judicial Court issued a new order regarding the use of electronic devices in the courtroom—they must be turned off prior to entering the courtroom unless authorized by the presiding judge, justice, or magistrate.

The new order issued February 13, 2023, JB-05-16, amends a May 2008 order and includes cell phones, pagers, computers, and other electronic devices. Both camera use and audio recording are prohibited in the courtroom, under a separate order JB-05-15. Such coverage of any courtroom events or proceedings must be authorized by Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court, justices of the Superior Court, and judges of the District Court at their sole discretion if the integrity of the court proceedings will not be adversely affected.
