Justice Carmen R. Velasquez admits she’s one of a number of New York judges—18% of the state’s judiciary in 2022, and 34% in 2021—who did not participate in the court system’s survey that collected demographic data.
Velasquez said she continues to take a pass on the survey because it doesn’t include a specific racial category for “Hispanic or Latino” judges.
