Saying that Donald Trump had “impaired” New York Attorney General Letitia James’ “rights or remedies,” a state appeals court has upheld a civil contempt finding and a $110,000 fine against the former president for not complying with a subpoena’s document demands in a $250 million suit aimed at Trump’s business practices.

The lower court “providently exercised its discretion in granting, without holding an evidentiary hearing or requiring the parties to meet and confer, the motion to hold [Trump] in civil contempt for disobeying the part of the court’s prior order,” wrote the Appellate Division, First Department in a four-paragraph opinion.
