U.S. Supreme Court advocate Paul Clement said Monday that he’s worried law schools are harboring a tribal mentality among students that can hurt judicial legitimacy in the long run at a Federalist Society event about promoting civility on college campuses.

“[G]etting into the mindset that there’s only one right side to legal issues—anyone who espouses the other view or represents the other side is somewhere between wrong and evil—I think that’s really a very unhelpful aspect of what’s happening in the law schools,” said Clement, a partner at Clement & Murphy and former U.S. solicitor general.
