The Tennessee Court of Appeals granted a new trial to four plaintiffs who allege an attorney and his accomplices used forged documents to redeem properties sold via tax sales, though the appellate court did trim several claims.

In 2015, Family Trust Services and plaintiff Billy Gregory filed a class action against defendants Charles E. Walker, an attorney currently serving a three-year suspension; Walker’s business partner, Jon Paul Johnson; and Julie Coone and Merdan Ibrahim. Gregory accused the defendants of running a criminal enterprise in connection with real property tax sales over a five-year period.
