Johnson & Johnson has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse a $344 million pelvic mesh judgment for the state of California and rein in what it called a “dangerous trend” that’s generated million-dollar verdicts to attorneys general throughout the country.

The 2020 judgment against Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon unit was among the rare decisions in a government case brought over transvaginal mesh devices, which are surgically implanted in women to treat stress urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.
