An immigration attorney who agreed in February to a three-year suspension of his right to seek admission in Virginia has further agreed to an additional six-month suspension for failing to ensure a client’s asylum application was sent and received in a timely manner.
Victor Rivera-Nieves, an attorney licensed to practice law in Puerto Rico and Washington state, but who maintained a home office in Virginia, a state he was not licensed to practice, was issued separate sanctions by the Disciplinary Board of the Virginia State Bar in February and Oct. 14 for allegedly mishandling three client immigration matters.
