Victor Velazquez, the executive director of the Maryland State Bar Association, who is credited by peers with “modernizing” the 120-year-old organization and with achieving member retention rates that have been “industry-leading,” will be stepping down from his leadership role at the end of October.
A news release from the bar association said Velazquez, who took over as executive director in 2017, is “leaving the MSBA to join a large publicly traded company unrelated to the legal sector,” where he will be a senior executive “leading a variety of strategic transformation initiatives building on his 20-plus year track record of doing so in a variety of industries.” The release, which announced Velazquez’s upcoming departure, did not name the publicly traded company.
