What You Need to Know

  • Andy Reed, vice president of behavioral economics at Fidelity Investments, was named Vanguard's head of investor behavior research.
  • After nearly eight years at JPMorgan Chase, Fiona Greig will become Vanguard's global head of investor research and policy.
  • William & Mary business professor Julie Agnew will join Vanguard in October as head of retirement research.

The Vanguard Group has hired three experts in investor behavior, household finance and retirement, including two JPMorgan and Fidelity veterans. They are joining the firm’s in-house think tank — Investment Strategy Group —  to “help influence stronger outcomes for investors.”

The mutual fund giant announced the moves Thursday on LinkedIn and Twitter.

Andy Reed, who has served as vice president of behavioral economics at Fidelity Investments, was named head of investor behavior research at Vanguard. (He was cited in a Fidelity article earlier this year as being in the behavioral economics VP role.)

Reed will now lead the strategic research agenda for the global investor behavior research team at Vanguard’s Investment Strategy Group, or ISG.

“Andy is a leading authority in the field of behavioral finance, having delivered presentations to investors, financial advisors, Fortune 500 companies, and academic conferences,” the Vanguard statement said.

Fiona Greig, who spent nearly eight years at JPMorgan Chase — most recently as JPMorgan Chase Institute’s co-president, according to her LinkedIn profile — will be Vanguard’s global head of investor research and policy, an ISG leadership role.

Greig “is a leading expert in household finance and the use of financial data to drive insights for both policymakers and business leaders,” Vanguard said in a statement sent to ThinkAdvisor.

“After almost eight incredible years building and leading the JPMorgan Chase Institute, I will be joining Vanguard as the Global Head of Investor Research and Policy,” Greig said in a LinkedIn post.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join Vanguard and work with Joe Davis, Julie Agnew, Andy Reed, and the rest of the crew to influence better outcomes for all investors,” she wrote. (Davis is the global chief economist and head of ISG.)

Julie Agnew, now a business professor at William & Mary’s Raymond A. Mason School of Business, has been been named head of retirement research. She announced on LinkedIn that she will join Vanguard in October.

Agnew will lead the strategic research agenda for ISG’s global retirement research team.

“Julie is a leading authority in the field of retirement, is on the Pension Research Council Advisory Board of the Wharton School, is an affiliated researcher with the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College and serves on the Advisory Board of the Journal of Retirement,” Vanguard said.
