An employment litigation attorney was indefinitely suspended by the Maryland Court of Appeals last week for her scheme to join a client’s case and split the damages award, while allegedly sending him an offensive letter when they couldn’t reach a financial agreement.

The client, Brian Riese, a former security technical specialist with the U.S. Department of State, claimed he had been discriminated against on the basis of his gender but the agency dismissed his complaint. He retained attorney Amber Lisa Maiden in September 2019 to represent him in filing an appeal of the dismissal to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
