The Department of Justice, along with state law enforcement, has brought criminal charges against 14 defendants, 12 of them medical professionals, for the illegal sale of opioids.

According to a DOJ press release, the effort stretched across eight different federal districts and several law enforcement agencies, including the Appalachian Regional Prescription Opioid (ARPO) Strike Force, the DEA, FBI, and Ohio and Kentucky Medicaid Fraud Control Units.
