A Massachusetts real estate attorney has been handed an agreed-upon 90-day suspension for conflict-of-interest violations stemming from her pursuit of a romantic and professional relationship with a client she met through an online dating platform.
Christa L. Emerson, also known as Christa L. Tomasi—a solo practitioner focusing on residential real estate work—met a man through an online forum. Once they met in person, they quickly became friends and discovered their shared interests in the real estate business, according to the disciplinary order by Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Justice Scott L. Kafker.
