A federal judge has awarded nearly $200 million in fees to lead counsel in the largest settlement to date over the water contamination crisis in Flint, Michigan.

On Friday, U.S. District Judge Judith Levy of the Eastern District of Michigan, who approved the $626.25 million settlement on Nov. 10, granted the fees over the objections of dozens of class members and nonprofit Michigan Lawsuit Abuse Watch, which had called on Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel to oppose the award. Nessel on Friday reiterated that the settlement prohibited her from doing so.
