Michael Avenatti wrapped his more than four-hour cross-examination of adult film star Stormy Daniels on Day Five of his Manhattan criminal trial, bringing an end to a wide-ranging and sometimes bitter confrontation between the one-time celebrity attorney and his former client.

The line of questioning on Friday highlighted the bad blood underlying the case, and injected detailed accounts of supposed paranormal encounters into the proceedings. It also aimed to reinforce Avenatti’s narrative that he was “entitled” to money he stands accused of stealing from Daniels’ book deal with a New York publisher.
