A defendant who failed to object to a district judge’s decision to hold a remote sentencing hearing under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act cannot now challenge that decision on appeal, a panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit said Jan. 21.
The circuit court rejected defendant Colin H. Coffin’s claims that U.S. District Judge William C. Griesbach of the Eastern District of Wisconsin incorrectly found that further delay in his felony sentencing in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic would harm the interests of justice.
