A federal judge in Camden has ordered Atlantic City to pay a $44,420 sanction over its pursuit of fraud allegations against two brothers that were dismissed as frivolous.

U.S. District Judge Noel Hillman set the amount of the sanction against Atlantic City Monday in a suit by the city accusing a company of defrauding an economic development loan program. Hillman also found no reason why the brothers’ attorney, Cheryl Cooper, could not use that payment to offset an $89,234 sanction entered against her in an unrelated case, which is still unpaid. Hillman invited parties to contact the court if they oppose that plan.
