A federal judge in Washington, D.C., has rejected former President Donald Trump’s bid to block congressional investigators from obtaining White House records relating to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol Building.

In a 39-page opinion issued Tuesday night, District Judge Tanya Chutkan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia detailed Trump’s efforts to undermine the 2020 election results, culminating in the Capitol riot. Chutkan said that she agrees with the Justice Department’s contention that the current president, not a former one, is the best person to determine whether records should be shielded under executive privilege.
