The House Select Committee examining the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol on Friday named a former U.S. attorney and prominent Republican lawyer as senior investigative counsel and of-counsel to the committee’s vice chairwoman, Rep. Liz Cheney, as it continues to build out its legal team.

John Wood, a former partner at Hughes Hubbard & Reed who most recently served as general counsel to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, will advise the committee as it conducts a wide-ranging investigation into the siege of the Capitol and the security failures and political planning that preceded it.
