Fresh off their May victory in the U.S. Supreme Court in a tax case, the Antonin Scalia Law School’s Supreme Court Clinic and its mentors, the law firm Consovoy McCarthy, hope the justices will take up their unusual commerce clause challenge to the criminalization of cockfighting.

Founded in 2011 by firm partners William Consovoy and Thomas McCarthy, the clinic at George Mason University is part of a modern phenomenon of Supreme Court litigation. Stanford Law School’s Supreme Court Litigation Clinic was the first of its kind and was founded in 2004 by professors Jeffrey Fisher and Pamela Karlan.
